OK, I have been confused by this for quite a while and I am now going to confuse you with it :)

If you look closely, or just plain look, when Mufasa is climbing up to his brother in the scene with the stampede, his claws are retracted.  They stay retracted even when Scar digs HIS claws into the back of his brother's.  IF Mufasa's claws were retracted when Scar was holding onto him, shouldn't they have been retracted into the rocks when Scar let go?  Mufasa could have saved himself, or did he really think that Scar was going to save him?  I can imagine why, if it were the case, he would take his claws out if he trusted his bro, but c'mon people.  You'd think that Mufasa would be wise enough to still not trust his brother.

My question is;  Did Muffy REALLY trust Scar, or did he knowingly take his claws out of the cliff, only to fall to his death?

Lastly, I would like to inform you that I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT MUFASA DIED KNOWINGLY.
He is my favorite character besides hyenas, and I  just want to know, why didn't  he  save himself?   Did he panic  and let go or what?

mufassas claws wouldnt be able to hold him when scar threw him off the cliff because he was already tired and weak from getting simba avioding the wildabeasts and climbing the cliff and i do think he trusted scar a little.

Mufassa HAD to trust his brother, it was a matter of life and death

Scar at first looked like he was going to help him, but when he dug his claws into Mufassas, Muffassa would have retracted his claws anyway. Because if Scar was going to throw him off the cliff his claws wouldnt be able to hold him on to the side of the cliff. It would just have made his fall straght down the , he maybe wouldnt die, but wouldnt be fit enought to be king anymore, that was the way Scar had planned it.

Mufasa wanted his brother to help him, but istead he just decided to let go and byt aht was apart of Scar's plat to become king.

Actually he didn't let go of the cliff. It's supposed to look like Scar somehow threw him off of it. There was supposed to be the whole 'broken trust and betrayel' thing. So Mufasa probably really DID trust Scar. They were brothers after all. How was he supposed to know his brother only wanted him dead? There was no way he would have known that. In his mind, Scar was going to help him.
