What was the purpose of Simba and Zira singing?

'We are one' and 'My lullaby' are two completely different
songs. However, I think they have something in common:
Simba & Zira sing about the paths Kiara & Kovu are
supposed to follow, but none of them are really excited with
it, cause Kiara isn't interested in becoming queen and Kovu
doesn't want to kill Simba and take over the pridelands.
