EvanDisney has adapted many great classic stories and made them into animated films for example Snow White is based on the classic fairytale by the Brothers Grimm so is Cinderalla and Sleeping Beauty and Alice in Wonderland is based on the books by Lewis Carroll Peter Pan by James Barrie Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi and the Jungle Book by Ruyard Kipling but what about the Lion King about story did Disney adapt it from some say Hamlet but there is also an anime verson of Simba called Kimba the White Lion which was out before the Lion King do you know what story the Lion King was adapted from .

The first Lion King was based of Hamlet and the Lion King 2 was based off Romeo and Juliet. If you read the Shakespeare play Hamlet there are several similarities, but also differences in order to make it suitable for children. I believe Hamlet is Simba, Mufasa is the Ghost, Scar is Claudius, Polonius is Sarafina (I believe they changed the gender!), Horatio is Rafiki, Queen Gertrude is Sarabi, Ophelia is Nala and Laertes is Mheetu. People may agree or disagree with this and I'm fine with that. This is only my opinion. I'm thinking of drawing a funny comic on what is different between the play and the film which will hopefully clear up any misunderstandings.
As for Lion King 2, this has got to be Romeo and Juliet as there are 2 families. The Pridelanders (the Capulets) and the Outlanders (the Montagues). There is lots of fighting resulting in the death of Nuka (either Tybalt or Mercutio - can't remember!) and both families unite in marriage.
The main differences between both films and their corresponding plays is the fact Disney has cut out most of the deaths. Both plays are tragedies and almost everyone dies - not the best thing for a children's film.
Hope this answers your question. If you have any more then feel free to ask.
