Why did Sarafina have a small part in the movie?

Sarafina only had one line in the first movie and the second.

Why is that?

I personally think it is because the story mainly followed Simba and his friends and family. Nala had to have a mother and that is where Sarafina comes in. If it was a story about Nala then she would appear more frequently.
