So I have been thinking about the king's/queen's duties (in the circle of life lol) and I realized that there wasn't much information about when a prince/princess is supposed to take over.
As first said in TLK by Mufasa "My time will end here and will rise with you as the new king" , You might think that Mufasa just mean't death. But did he? I mean death can't be the only reason why his time as king would end. There's gotta be somthing else...
I mean a lion doesn't stay in great shape forever. At some point people get older and usually weaker. I assume once a "ruler" gets a bit older and weaker that he/she can't handle as many tasks as they could before and if so not as well. I think that would be a good time for them to step down and let their new generation take their plce. I'm sure even royalty retires at some point haha, but I'm sure if Mufasa wasn't murderd that he would become old and live within the pride as his son leads them all. Cuz honestly, if cubs just take their place after their parents die wouldn't that be...like....not right? Sounds weird just thinking about it like that. But I have never seen more than one male lion living on Pride Rock,Except the begining of TLK, but Simba was just a cub and near the end of TLK2. But I'm not even gonna start rambling on to other things. :p
Also what if a royal family member is bannished. I know the pride is supposed to respect their leader no matter how insane...*cough cough* Scar *Cough*, but I'm sure if that if there was already a new lion/lioness ready to take their place that if the leader did something too unacceptable that they could be banished by the rest of the pride and the whoever was next in line would take place. After all isn't that what ahppened to Zira?
I'm not sure, there are a lot of things that could happen, but really I wonder at what stage of that lion's life would he/she take their parent's place.
What do you guys think? What age would a cub take their parent's place as king/queen and what causes do you think ould lead them to do so?

Indeed, that was not explained. So you can easily turn to fanfiction
for answers. Yeah on way is if old king dies, then heir takes over. But good question is what if leader would live to see the old age. My bet would go in TLK universe that old king simply retires and leaves asks to prince and as he gets older more tasks get up on heir. And old king serves more as guide to new king once heir is ready to take over. Of course if you look stuff from how lion prides function in real life, of course stuff turn differently and old king sticks with his position till death. Either by another male or injury he gets while doing his job. But I doubt Disney would show it this way. So it is up to you to decide, since it was never really told. |
yet to add-on, some ways disney would do it.
Disney went by medieval Terms and the "romantic" sense of Kings and queens. True the king could step down, Or be over thrown by his child, friend or Sibling, Just because a King is Over Thrown does't mean that the one who did it did it because they hated their king.
The Old king could be over thrown by his people (pride) as well, if they think it's best for their pride.
In Simba's age there were two other males int he pride (book wise) in disney's terms they could have been chosen to rule if simba didn't seem fit.
Or
A king can be old and still rule but his sons will be doing most of the work (fighting, Sending out Messages, seeing to the protection of the Pride and so on) in his sted while he lives out the rest of his life, then when the old lion passes, the eldest son takes over.
Those are just some possible ways disney might have gone about doing it, because they are taken from how thing worked back in the days of Kings and Queens, which seems to be were Disney gathered most of it's Themes.
