I've made countless avatars on paint and made sure they are nice and small! I go on edit my profile, send an avatar pick one out of my files and submit. It says image sent and then I go off it on to the rest of the site. I look at my avatar at the bottom and.... a white box with a cross in the corner! I've tried it on Balto source like people have said but it never works! Please, I'm desperate! Help me out!

The same problem happened with me, so I suggest that you make sure the avatar is 150x150 pixels and saved as a Jpeg image. This might not work, so if it doesn't, I suggest to try 'Seth2208's' solution.

Yes you do, but there are other sites as well. Iaza.com is one, but they only host for 90 days. Imageshack.us can also be used without an account.

I also had problem with sending file through "Profile" -> "Change my avatar". But I found way around it. Make Photobucket (or any other similar site) account and upload image there. Then take URL from direct link field and paste it to "Profile" -> "Avatar URL" field. That is how it worked for me, if my memory serves.
