I have left. This site brings no joy anymore. My profile has been just sitting here for some time, I'm not active anymore. I keep coming back in hope of things changing, but please, enough it enough. If you want to contact me stop by my DeviantArt profile @ AgentWhiteHawk. Bye all. |

First off, it depends on what kind of style do you choose to make your background in. Mostly it depends on what kind of style do you choose to draw characters in. If animals are painterly or realistic, the background would most likely look better if it's painted stroke by stroke like traditional painting, with lots of details. You can use various references to help you with this, explore the shapes of different plants, sometimes you can even paint over photos of leafs or trees if it helps you to get them more realistic, but do so carefully. ;D You can adjust your brush in Photoshop, play with the Flow of your simple round brush. Search your inspiration from photos or film sceneries with nature, because good photographers and filmmakers already done an amazing job by choosing the right angle and lighting, right composition of the shot. It's not for copying someone else's work, but to get to understand how you could set your background better.
If you choose more simple style, cartoony, or vector-ish, it's a lot simplier to do.
Use several layers for your background. Some plants that are far away would better look blurred, while the trees and plants that are closer and around the character would better look crispy and precise.

Oh, and just to let you know, I've only got a few screenshots left to do in my animation, and I'm aiming to finish before the deadline of your couple contest so I can send it in. Hopefully, fingers crossed *crosses fingers*. I love how the deadline is Halloween day xD
Oh, and yes, I'm doing well. How about you?
