Main point to realize: NALA IS VITANI'S MOM. Yup, I- at this point- fully believe and support this fact. Blue eyes is not common or shown in any other characters except Nala and Vitani which is the point of the song choice. Also, in the musical Scar attempts to take Nala as his mate which makes her run away to find help. I think that he suceeded in producing a cub with her which Nala then gave to Zira before she left because Zira could not produce a cub. I think the significance to Vitani saying "Where's your pretty daughter Nala?" in the second movie shows that when Vitani grows up she realizes the fact herself and becomes bitter. So basically, Zira's pride is exiled after Scar's death. (opening scene) Nala shouts 'no!' without realizing it and Simba asks why she's so upset. Nala can't admit that her first cub is Scar's and shrugs it off. Nala, through her life, has dreams of finding Vitani and admiting the truth to her. She also acts as if she hates Zira though in reality she's desperate to ask about Vitani and thank her for caring for her cub and not 'telling on her' The picture is after Nala's fight with Simba. She feels like she left her family and her only cub for nothing and has lost all hope. She's miserable. She blames Simba for his lack of interest in his pride's problems and Scar for starting her pain with Vitani. Then the story fades to Vitani's side. Vitani has realized by now that Nala has some relation to her (by eye color and the way she watches her) Vitani is desperate to get close to Nala and is spying close to Pride rock to get her chance. She sees Nala greeting her second daughter so warmly and in a jealous fury she runs away. Kiara notices the grass move and her mother's shocked expression.
