As the daughter of a simple lioness in the pride I wasn't very important. Yet I was a great friend of the young prince, Simba. Perhaps I would've been his best friend if it wasn't for that pretty little princess friend of his. Her father was a great king from another pride. Puh, I thought. If I was a princess I would have definately been betrothed to him! Yes, I longed to be more than Simba's friend, but who wouldn't? He was a dream, handsome, kind, fun, and a PRINCE!!! He was perfect and he was my first crush, but then that happened.

I realised my crush would be nothing more...

The day that Scar became king I was at the back of my pride with my mother, I was barely noticable. But the words, quiet as they was, would haunt me for the rest of my poor life...

Things in the Pridelands were ok at first, things were rocky, as to be expected what with a new king. But I was depressed. Everyone was. The food supply was slowly going down as the hyena ate most of it. By the time I was a teenager the almost every lionesses ribs where showing. Except me and that beautiful lioness Nala, oh how I loathed her. I wouldn't realise why we were given more food until I was an adult....

The old king Scar had called me into his cave, which was strange. No one was allowed in there since Mufasa and Simba's death. The king began to lecture me on the pride's well being. He said something about most of the lionesses too old to birth and that the rest seemed unwilling. Who would want to have Scar's cubs though! He was a snake and disgusting. He carried on and said that there was only a two young lionesses who would be easy to convince. He asked me if I understood and I shook my head. He was making no sense. What was the point in this. I was about to ask him until he smiled at me menacingly......

He meant me and Nala.....

At first I put up a fight, not just metaphorically. I physically hit him. We scrambled until he pinned me on to the ground. He said that if I didn't submit that he would hurt the ones close to me. My mother. He meant her. Something didn't add up to me, Scar was claimed to be the weak, yet creepy, brother of the king, but I guess that was just a lie made up to hide his true evilness. I'd never let him hurt her, not ever. I spat in his face and kicked him hard with my hindlegs. I left him winded on the cave floor and ran to the borders. I had to leave the Pridelands. But as I was about to cross into the unknown lands I met an old friend there, sobbing.

Nala....

I growled at her. We hadn't talked since the death of Simba. She grumbled and I realised she disliked me as much as I her. I bared my teeth, looked her in the eyes and asked her what she was doing. She groaned in annoyance and said she was finding help. Turned out Scar had done the same thing to her as to me. Scar was so repulsive, yet he would be looking for her soon. He was persistant, I'd give him that. I looked at her up and down. She'd never survive on her own, she wasn't like me. I had seperated myself from the pride ever since I was young so I was accostomed to living alone. As much as I hated to admit it, she needed me. I frowned and said that I was a strong hunter and would make a good companion for such a long journey. She gave me a snooty look, obviously being treated so well by Scar had gone to her head and thought she was better than everyone else. I raised my eyebrows and walked away saying that she might starve to death on her own without dear Scar. It wasn't long until she was begging me to come with her.

We were travelling for days, we only stopped to hunt and rest. The princess proved herself to be useful, she was a keen hunter and had fantastic tracking skills. Raw talent I guess. She was also an ok companion, we were friends once, I had forgot that. Ever since Simba died I had blamed her for not being with him, she had told me that in the morning Simba had asked her to play with him. If she had accepted he might not of got caught up in that stampede. She was a nice lioness, she told me that she was only mean to me because she was jealous of me for being normal. Apparently being an adored princess is tiring. At times we even seemed to be like long lost sisters. She was great. Everything was fine and admittidaly I had completly forgotton about finding a new king. Well until one day, we were hunting.

Nala had found a nice plump warthog stalking some sort of beetle, we hadn't had something that nice for a long while. Warthog may be an aquired taste but a great big one like this would be soft and chewy. Mmm, I could hardly contain myself, I was practically drooling. Nala stood about 50 feet away from me as I snook forward to this hog. I was so distracted by the delicous heap of ham that I let a twig snap beneath my paw. The warthog looked up from his bug and ran. The chase had begun....

I dipped left and right through the nearby jungle hunting the pig, with Nala at my heels. I laughed in sheer joy as the warthog trapped himself underneath a branch! I was so hungry! I unsheathed my claws and was about to pounce, when a lion jumped over the pig roaring. I snarled, he wanted mine and Nala's kill, I had to fight him for it. I jumped at his throat as Nala stood shouting at me to not kill him. I'd forgot that we needed a new king. I let go of his neck and pinned him to the ground. He was shocked, and he whispered in a hoarse voice. I couldn't understand until he cleared his throat. He said something, in a rough, scratchy voice....

He said my name.....

I didn't understand at first, I was shocked. Who was this lion? I frowned. Mufasa? I asked. He just laughed and said that it was Simba. I was about to hug him when Nala pinned him down and nuzzled him. Typical I thought. Nala had to go and make such a romantic gesture to him. I looked at them and Simba looked happy. It didn't matter about Nala. Simba was alive! Simba wriggled out of Nala's grasp and aproached the warthog. Dinner, FANTASTIC! I was dissapointed when he pulled the pig out and introduced him as his best friend Pumbaa with his other best friend Timon. Apparantly the two strange, lazy lay abouts practically raised him. I smiled and nuzzled his cheek. He smiled and said that he really missed me and Nala. I laughed and said I'd missed him too. Nala grinned and said that maybe I should go hunting, seeing as Simba hadn't had a good bit of zebra since he was a cub. Hunting zebra would mean I'd have to be hunting all night. I knew she liked Simba as well as me but this was just petty. So I simply told her that I wasn't treking all night when I want to talk to my friend, and said I'd find him a nice fish or a hare. I think with the arrival of Simba my friendship with Nala was gone. I went hunting and brought him back some strange colourful bird and a big fish. But when I got back I saw Nala and Simba were gone. I dropped my kill and went looking for them. When I saw them playing, I was jealous but when she kissed him on the cheek I couldn't handle it. I ran, shocked and I didn't know what to do. I ran back to the place where I found Simba and wept. I saw Timon and Pumbaa looking just as sad as me walking home. When they saw me sobbing they came to me and patted me on the back. They said that they had tried to stop Simba and Nala from being together and that they preffered me. Turns out the crazy pair would rather have me as their 'daughter in law'. Nala musn't have been that nice to them. Sadly it would never be up to those two. Simba would never want me after this. My ears pricked up as I heard shouting. I looked at Timon, he was grinning happily. I frowned, I didn't want them to be unhappy together but if I could be with Simba it would be ok. So I headed in the direction of the shouting....

By the time I arrived to the noise Nala was storming towards me and growled at me, telling me to mind my own buisness. I bared my teeth and headed after Simba. He looked fuming. I stayed in the bushes, hiding from him, if he saw me he'd just shout at me. I sat in the grass as a familiar baboon aproached him. They began running and I carefully and quietly followed them. I saw a figure appear in the sky, a golden ghost beside the stars.

It was Mufasa.....

Simba didn't look conviced, he had just seen his father in the sky and he was burying his head in the grass. I was confused, so I approached him and lay down beside him, resting my head on his. I told him it was ok and that he should trust his father, everything was crazy, but belivable. But he was still un convinced, he told me that he could never face his mother and his uncle. They would never forgive him he said. I shook my head, what ever he did didn't matter. What mattered that if he didn't go back his mother would die.
