Lion King news!

Hello Lion King Source, there are some great news for you:

1. Remember previous news about Legacy Edition soundtrack?

Each album will also feature newly created artwork from Lorelay Bove, a visual development artist at Walt Disney Animation Studios (Tangled, Winnie the Pooh, Wreck-It Ralph). Here's an example of the artwork:

2. We know about new Lion King spin-off movie and series to be aired on Disney Channel in 2015, “The Lion Guard”.

The series will be about Kion, the son of the now-grown “Lion King” protagonist Simba, who assembles a group of animals to help him protect the jungle prideland as part of a group called the Lion Guard.

“It’s kind of like ‘The Lion King’ meets ‘The Avengers,’” said Disney Junior general manager Nancy Kanter.

The genesis of the series came from a meeting Ms. Kanter had with Disney chief executive Robert Iger two years ago, at which the CEO suggested the preschool channel consider producing content for the 20th anniversary of “The Lion King” in 2014.

Disney Junior plans to launch “The Lion Guard” with an hourlong movie in November of 2015, followed by regular episodes the following January.

Looks like a rip off of advengers. Disney should have made the name more Kenyan. This sounds too american for a name. Upset they threw fan made Kopa out the window. RIP Kopa. Oh well wonder how it will gain preschoolers who have never heard of TLK before. :/

What they usually do for television premieres is make a full-length "special" episode to act as the pilot for the series. When it is shown in re-runs, it's shown in different parts. Assuming each episode is 30 minutes long, the "movie" to start it off is really just a two-part episode arc.

For this to be on Disney Junior begs me to ask, how many little kids have even seen The Lion King? Not only that but making Kion Kiara's little brother? For real? Talk about getting out of hand so quickly...

I think this series and Kion for the TLK fans, will be like "Twilicorn" for the bronies, when "Twilicorn" became canon for the first time, everybody freaked out, but when Season 4 episodes were released, it wasn't the "horror" everyone expected. So everybody will just freak out now, when the series start everyone will like it, but until there there's no doubts that the TLK fandom world will "burn"

Hmmm, if Kion's the cub at the end of TLK1, that throws Fluffy out, not Kopa - Kopa was stated to not be Fluffy all along.

I've only just noticed that in the photo of Kion roaring you can see lions roaring in the clouds. I just thought it was a nice touch to draw into an image of him.

I'd love to watch this, however, I can't access the channel! Can't wait to start seeing more characters joining the Lion King universe! Will there be a new tab on the site?

The way canons work is, there are several layers. The movies are the "true" canon; anything that contradicts the movies is not canon. After the movies are the movie scripts, and after those are any TV shows (though, honestly, I'm not sure how Timon & Pumbaa would fit. It's more of a spin-off that's not meant to be taken seriously). After TV shows are official books, which is where Kopa lies. If the Lion Guard show confirms Kion to be the lion seen at the end of The Lion King, that means Kopa is effectively now non-canon. In other words, he doesn't exist and never will.

Huh. I've never seen anything worth watching on Disney Junior(Then again I don't watch it), but this looks like something I'd watch a few episodes of off Youtube.

Kion, huh? I'm over here pronouncing it "Kee-ohn" mentally. Not "Kie-uhn"... I hope that's right.

I don't think this'd throw out Kopa if you consider the subcanon, since he's confirmed there.

Fun fact, Kion translates to "Ginger from Spanish to English, which makes sense- Kion looks like Simba who is, well...ginger

Apparently Kion, not Kopa, is the "canon" lion seen at the end of "The Lion King." That basically throws out Kopa's canonicity forever. Sorry fans.
