Personality

Cunning, clever, observant; is his youthful years he could sometimes be cruel, and a lot like Scar, although not so vengeful as to be keen to kill, nor as sly or two-faced; he is very loyal (especially to family), perhaps more so now than he used to be. He can be very well-mannered and courteous.

Likes
Used to love power and being powerful, and enjoyed intimidating his enemies. Since becoming wiser into his old age, however, he decided simple peace and happiness was better; has always liked spending time with his family.

Dislikes
Needless wars; unnecessary violence; wasting time and time wasters; intruders on his pride's territory.

Relationships with Other Lions
Obbler used to think himself important over most other lions and could be a cruel customer to his enemies, as well as a showoff to all; still, he was also very courteous and good-mannered, especially to elderly lions (who remind him of his beloved mother), and these positive traits are his most predominant now that he is older (although he is sometimes a bit grumpy with certain individuals, in particular young lions); he enjoys entertaining guests.
 

History

Obbler was born an Outlander, and grew up as one of Zira's lions; he was born around the same time as Nuka. He knew his father, Olg, only by name. His mother Wazee, an elderly lioness, had come from her birth-lands, the Congo jungles, and joined Zira's group. Wazee raised Obbler single-handedly. She was a lion of very kind and gentle nature, so although Obbler grew up tough, sturdy and fierce through living the rough life in the Outlands,  by his mother he was taught good-manners towards other lions in the pride, and loyalty.

Later on, directly after the Outlanders and the Pride Landers had become allies, Obbler developed an interest in being a leader of sorts. By this time, he had matured into a strong and ambitious adult, and was keen to become powerful. He began watching Simba, acknowledging the King's decisions and duties and studying everything Simba did to do with ruling the Pride. Then, when Obbler thought he had learned enough about leading, he left the Pride Lands.

He travelled north of Pride Rock past the Elephant Graveyard, beyond which he found a piece of stony, unwanted country. With a Pridelander he had become mates with called Safi, he claimed this new land, making himself Emperor of it. Other lions - mainly rogues and nomads, but some from the Pride Lands - joined him, and Obbler soon had a small pride. Obbler named himself ''Emperor of the Stones'' (Stones being the name of his rocky territory, and his followers the Tribe of Stones). Not long after, Safi bore him a daughter, named Princess Romy.
 

Obbler's pride expanded gradually - of the lions that joined him, there was a certain ace fighter called Jafiya, who Obbler soon made a commander of his growing army. Obbler also set up a group of rough fighting lions called the Buchscrubbers, whose job it was to go on special missions, secret or otherwise.

In time, when he had enough followers, Obbler planned to take on more territory - or at least access to it. He had begun to make alliances with neighbouring lion prides big and small, among them the Pridelanders. He hoped that - through being on good terms with other lions - his Tribe would have access to and hunting use of their neighbours land, even if they did not directly own it. His offer of friendship was accepted by all he made it to . . . except one lion.  Queen Jet, leader of a small pride of lions, was not interested in alliance with Obbler, guessing his motivations. Obbler, furious, stamped Jet as a foe, and passed on orders to crush her people to General Jafiya, who was far afield on another mission. Jafiya sent word back, saying he was not interested in the job. He planned to marry Queen Jet.

Obbler positively exploded at Jafiya's decision.

Conflict erupted between Jafiya and Jet's pride and Obbler's. Wars were fought on and off. Obbler brought in his allies the Pridelanders to fight on his side. In the midst of the fued, Obbler's second daughter Emillia was born; and he always regretted that he never spent as much time with her as he had Romy, due to being engrossed in the business of war.

Eventually, Jet and Jafiya were finally vanquished. Obbler banished the pair (and their handful of loyal followers) to the desert lands north of his kingdom, after robbing them of their rulership, their lands, the majority of their army . . . and their cubs, Jot, Sula and Kyra. Stealing the practically newborn infants from their parents was a cruel extra blow to his enemy. However, this plan was foiled when the cubs were rescued by a mission led by Jafiya's second-in-command Kudan.

Despite being cheated of this piece of retribution, Obbler was satisfied he had sentenced his foe to a fate worse than death. He basked in a few golden years of prosperity; his son Zumaridi was born; he watched his Tribe grow, putting time into restrengthening his army and generally enjoying an era of good hunting and no trouble in his kingdom, now one that was exceedingly vast.

However, this happiness was not to last.

As Obbler neared old age, several calamities happened in quick succession.
First, the kingdom grew so large it became hard to protect. Although Obbler's army was fairly large, it wasn't big enough to cope with the amount of enemies - mainly rogues - that started to steal prey and attack the Stone lions. Then, to make matters worse, his two Fuuno (generals of the Bushscrubbers) went missing on a mission to help the Goldencrater pride, which was struggling. The Goldencraters gained a new leader, Ochoyo, who also opposed Obbler. It was a hard time for Obbler, to say the least . . .

To make matters worse, Jafiya and Jet seemed to come back to life - indeed, they had not perished in the desert; but they and their followers had founded a new home in the desert, living in an oasis. They were back to fight for their old homelands, or else find new territory - and they knew Obbler would try to stop them.

Obbler was livid. The war began again, and Obbler suffered terribly in a period of absolute chaos as he fought all his enemies at once. Then like some miracle, Comoros and Meno returned, and they brought reinforcements. This did not help much, but Obbler was confident he would win...

Nobody won in the end. Following sickness, hidden enemies and more unseen difficulties . . . the prides finally united. They formed the Isu Keeney and moved to new territory.

Obbler, deciding to let go of grudges and forget external gain, has changed for the best. Still confident and proud - traits he passes down or teaches to those younger in generation (such as he grandcubs and great-grandcubs through Romy) - he is nonetheless becoming more laid back by the day and as times goes by . . . he's simply happy with the blessings he has.

 

Relation to the Lion King Universe
Born in the Outlands, Obbler grew up a friend of Nuka and Kovu and joined Simba's Pride before starting up a kingdom of his own. The Pridelanders were allies of Obbler's pride during times of war.
