Sauda
Personality:
Sauda has an extremely passive and manipulable temperament. She is fearful and obedient, willing to put her own well-being aside for the sake of her family, for whom she is extremely passionate and devoted. Sauda is also overprotective of her daughter, a trait that has caused their relationship to deteriorate over time.
Relations:
She is Kovu's mother (although, for a long time, he is unaware of it). Her mate is Chumvi's half brother and one of Simba's friends. She used to live in the Mountain Pride, governed by Hema (Malka's mother).
Story:
Sauda was born to a rogue couple and, because of their nature, she learned early on to take care of herself; since they did not have the security of a kingdom, both she and her parents would be more susceptible to being attacked or killed. After the death of Mufasa and his son Simba, the advance and overpopulation of hyenas put the lives of Pridelanders and nearby territories at risk, causing many residents of the Pridelands to flee to seek refuge elsewhere - much to the dismay of the current dictator Scar.
The king then decreed that anyone who tried to flee his kingdom would be killed. But this threat did not stop Sauda and her parents from trying to leave their land, as staying there was unviable. The small family's escape came at a price - Sauda's parents were murdered in cold blood by the hyenas and the young teenager, desperate and traumatized, ran as far as her paws could carry her. After running relentlessly, the young lioness collapsed to the ground and was rescued by a beautiful golden lioness who introduced herself as Hema. She took Sauda to her vast Mountain Pride and informed her that, like her, many had come to her for refuge after the fall of the Pridelands.
As time went by, Sauda grew into a docile but insecure and easily manipulated lioness. She never forgot the death of her parents, and so she obeyed orders without questioning them for fear of a similar fate. However, in that Mountain Pride this would not even be considered - when Hema's son Malka was old enough to ascend the throne, she stepped down so that her son could take over, and he ruled with all the justice and respect he inherited from his beloved mother.
Sauda made many acquaintances in her new home, and she fell deeply in love with a lion about the same age as her - a kind, quiet young lad named Chidi, half-brother to Chumvi, one of her friends. One of her greatest dreams was to have a family, and with him she was sure that this would be possible. After some time Sauda happily discovered that she was carrying babies in her belly - the land shaman knew that in her womb were beautiful twins, a boy and a girl. Sauda promised that she would take care of them with all the strength and love she could offer.
Before giving birth to her children, as usual when lionesses become pregnant, she left her land for a while and walked a considerable distance to find a comfortable and safe den to have her babies. Sauda, however, had a strange feeling that she was being followed - being fearful and paranoid, but knowing that this would harm her children who rested in her womb, she concluded that it was just her own impression, or at most that it was some close friend watching over her from afar.
The birth went peacefully, and in a span of almost an hour she was finally able to hold her children in her arms - a male, who resembled her beloved father Chidi and whom she named Sefu, because he was determined to have the mighty of a sword, and a female, who looked like her, whom she decided to call Kimya, as she was very quiet.
Sauda waited until the cubs opened their eyes and learned to walk so she could return to the pride, and then a nightmare happened. A few days before returning to the Mountain Pride, while in a deep sleep, Sauda failed to notice the presence of an older lioness who silently entered her den and kidnapped her son, Sefu. Upon awakening, Sauda was distraught to see only little Kimya by his side. Panicked, she returned to the pride to her companion Chidi who was overjoyed to finally see his daughter, but seeing Sauda's look of despair, he realized something was wrong and she tearfully informed him that the couple's son, Sefu, was missing.
King Malka organized his search patrol to look for his friend's missing cub, and after days of tireless searching, they were unsuccessful - the kidnapper had managed to disguise both her and Sefu's tracks.
Sauda and Chidi were heartbroken, especially Sauda for not being able to keep her promise. But from this tragedy they gathered strength to rebuild their lives and their family, and Sauda reaffirmed that she would never let anything happen to her Kimya.
Not too far away, little did Chidi and Sauda know that their loved Sefu now had another name and would follow in the pawsteps of the tyrant who ruled the Shadowlands...
