History
One night during a full moon, a mysterious prophecy was given to Makini, Mjuzi of the Tree of LIfe, stating that 'The Patched One' would bring great trouble to the Pridelands. On the same night a cub was born to King Kion and Queen Rani - their thrid cub, a bright yellow boy, with a dark brown patch across one side of his face - he was named Doadogo ('small patch') for this reason.
It came to all in a flash. 'Doadogo' the cub must be 'The Patched One' spoken of in the prophecy! Kion, Rani and their family did not mention this to the residents of the Tree of Life, for they could not be sure.
Kion and Rani worried for their son. They did not love him less than his older siblings. The Tree of Life animals had not been told of the prophecy, yet the creatures knew something...
The other animals smelt a rat.
'That cub must be a reflection of that long-dead lion Scar!' the animals of the Tree of Life decided. 'Look at his black mane! He is destined for some darkness. Doooom!'
Kion and Rani, although they did not want to believe their cub Dodogo was the one whom the prophecy spoke of - 'the 'Patched One' who would bring terror to the Pride lands - they took no chances. They forbade Splotch ever to leave the Tree of Life - they did not want him to go to the Pridelands, just in case he was the terrible doom of destiny foretold.
Truth was, Doadogo, or 'Splotch' as he was known, was amazing and kind-hearted and true . . . and the embodiment of the whole Lion Guard combined - fastest of the fast, bravest of the brave, strongest of the strong, keenest-of-sight-of-the . . . well, you get the idea. And clever. Very clever. Witty's the word. He was amazing. He even knew how to heal wounds and stuff. However, due to the Tree of Life animals being afraid of him, only the tiniest of insects would come to him to be healed. If he hadn't been so shunned, Nirmala would have been made redundant!
Splotch was fairly miserable being shunned you can imagine. At first. Hid did want to mix with other animals, like his parents and older siblings did so he found a cunning way to do so. He took to disguising himself as other animals in order to talk to them. He'd use leaves, dirt, anything - and tiger, cheetah, hippo, monkey, even honeybadger; you name it, Splotch could mime it. He fooled everybody into thinking he was whatever he was dressed as. This was the only way he mingle with others outside of his family, and 'twas great fun. Right 'larious.
One day, King Kion and Queen Rani went to visit the Pridelands. Their teenage cubs were left in charge of things with the help of the Night Pride.
While the cats are away, the mice will play. This was what the Tree of Life animals had been waiting for - the absence of their rulers!
'Get rid of the patchy lion!' they said. 'Depection! Disgrace! There's something wrong with this one's face! He's got Scar's bloooood!' And they proceeded in shoving Splotch into the darkest, weirdest, most left-alone place in the whole Tree of Life kingdom; a plot of cacti somewhere in the jungle.
But Splotch was the bravest, strongest, ect. creature in the whole of the Tree of Life! He broke out of his cacti prison (Boom! Bosh! Wallop!) and ran and ran and ran. He came to the Pridelands - just in time to stop a mud-splattered gorilla from killing King Simba.
The gorilla was, in fact, 'The Patched One' spoken of in prophecy!
Splotch was proclaimed a hero. Carried home high and proud upon the back of an old baboon (Rafiki), he was no longer seen as a villain.
. . . . Although some animals still didn't like him, just a little bit.
A nod to Pawface for partly designing him :)
