Basic Information

Jelani is a lazy baboon who appears in 'Follow the Leader'.  He is Rafiki's cousin (three times removed) and is the selfish leader of the Grass Walls baboon troop when he first appears in the story. He refuses to do anything about his tribe suffering in a drought that has long cursed their homeland, but nobody challenges his rank due to him being the strongest. In the end, Rafiki manages to take over as leader and guides the whole troop to a new home. During the journey, Jelani becomes more compassionate - after seeing his aunt Karibu have a bad fall and realizing the error of his ways -  and he eventually returns to the role of leader . . . determined to be better one.
