Personality: Mgumu is just as her name suggests: tough. Growing up under Scar's rule taught Mgumu that in order to survive, she needed to toughen up and not get upset over the small things. At times, this tough personality makes her seem grumpy and too serious, which to a certain extent is true. She's focused on the task at hand and if she has to step on toes to get it done, she will; she won't sugarcoat anything, and says what needs to be said, even if it's a hard pill to swallow. Her snarky nature also makes her a bit hard to get along with, and combined with her stubbornness, she doesn't make friends easily. But once you become her friend, you'll find that Mgumu is a valuable friend to have; she's endlessly devoted to her loved ones, and would do anything to keep them safe. Though many see her as stoic, Mgumu is capable of intense feelings of love for her family and friends. She doesn't show it much, of course, but she still has love for them nonetheless, and will do anything she can to protect them and keep them safe.

History:
Mgumu was born along with her twin sister Kula not long before Prince Simba was born, and she, along with Kula, grew up with the other cubs. Their friend group, also including, Tama, Chumvi, Nala, and sometimes Malka, spent nearly every day together, and as a cub, Mgumu was quite the active, snarky girl, often found play-fighting with Tama and Nala. She and her sister were quite the polar opposites; while Mgumu was energetic and fierce, Kula was much more laid-back, however despite their differences, they remained close through childhood. Mgumu was also no stranger to Princes Absko and Amir of the Eastlands Pride, who would occasionally visit the Pridelands to see their cousin, Chumvi. On one fateful day when the princes were visiting, Mgumu and Absko snuck out to the waterhole alone, where Absko was attacked and scarred by a water buffalo, leaving Mgumu horrified. After Absko healed and went home, Mgumu decided that she needed to grow up; she'd realized, after being scolded by her mother, that her childish actions lead to Absko getting hurt, and so she vowed to grow up. While her wish was granted, it wasn't in the way she had hoped.
Not too long after the incident with Absko, Scar announced the deaths of Mufasa and Simba, and he took over as king, unleashing the hyenas onto Priderock. Suddenly, they were all living under the thumb of Scar and Shenzi's clan, and the hyenas had a particular interest in the lion cubs, often threatening and taunting them with nips and growls. Try as the lionesses might, they were hopelessly outnumbered, and with Scar's promise of immunity, the hyenas felt they could do as they pleased. It got especially worse when the lionesses had to hunt, only able to leave one or two behind to guard the cubs. Mgumu quickly grew to hate the hyenas and their taunting, and she vehemently defended her sister and friends, even if she were constantly terrified of the hyenas.
As time passed and the cubs grew, the hyenas only continued to harass them, and the group, now teenagers, were growing sick of this. One day, Chumvi and Tama proposed a plan to escape Priderock and find allies with the Eastlands, hoping their neighbors would help them against Scar's ever growing tyrannical rule. While Mgumu agreed with the plan, she knew she couldn't leave; Tojo would never be able to escape with the others, not with his bum leg, and she worried for her mother and the older lionesses. Instead, she volunteered alongside Nala to stay behind while the others sought help from the Eastlands. While Kula argued it at first, Mgumu insisted her sister left, wanting her to be safe. Sarabi and Sarafina joined in on the plan, and together, they successfully helped Chumvi, Tama, Kula, and Sarabi's daughters Huria and Sukari escape, but not without penalty.
Scar had noticed their absence, and he quickly turned on the lionesses. Mgumu and the others denied their involvement, but Scar wasn't so convinced. He ordered Shenzi and her lackeys to keep a close eye on the lionesses and, when Mgumu ended up alone one day, they attacked her, tearing rips into her right ear. Her shouts were heard by the other lionesses and they came to her aid, saving Mgumu from a possible death. This, however, served as a warning; no one was safe from the hyenas. Now, the lionesses chose to band together and never be alone, however this was far from the end of their hardships. As days passed and there was no sign from the escaped lions or their neighbors, everyone began to lose hope. Though Nala and Mgumu grew into fine young lionesses, the same couldn't be said for the Pridelands; a harsh drought had struck, and the lack of water combined with over hunting drove their prey away. The older lionesses forfeited their own scraps of food to the younger lionesses, even as Nala and Mgumu tried to convince them to keep it. Mgumu's own mother grew thin and ill, and when she passed away, the lionesses knew they had to do something before they all starved to death.
In one last ditch effort, they worked together to help Nala escape; she was now their only hope for help. Mgumu, Sarabi, and Sarafina once more aided in her escape, and when Scar and the hyenas finally realized Nala was gone, they were furious. They were put on complete and utter lock down, only allowed to go out on hunts that remained fruitless. It seemed like all hope was lost until a mysterious lion appeared and challenged Scar. The lionesses learned from Nala that it was Simba, the lost prince, and when Scar admitted he killed Mufasa, the lionesses ran into battle, defeating the hyenas and vanquishing King Scar. Simba took over, and slowly, the lands and lionesses began to heal. When Kula, Sukari, and Huria came back, now grown ups, they were reunited with their loved ones. Mgumu was extremely happy to see her sister once more, and while they mourned the loss of their mother, Kula was back to stay, and Mgumu couldn't have asked for anything more. Slowly but surely, things were beginning to turn around, and for once, life was peaceful again.
