History: Kanu was born in a large pride. He was the only son but just the third male. His mother was one of the hunters in the pride. As a young cub, Kanu’s mother trained her son how to be fast, quiet, and agile. Kanu had a strong relationship with his mother but, sadly, when he was just a young cub a devastating drought came across their land. His mother, along with other volunteered to search for water. They left one hot summer morning but never returned. The water was at a shortage and the king decided who would receive the little water they scrapped up. This angered Kanu’s father. The king gave the water to his family, and the strongest lionesses. So, because Kanu and his father were the other males they were not given much, if not any. Kanu did not understand much of what was going on, since he was still real young, but his father went against the pride and found water just for him and son, and Kanu went along with it. They kept their secret water all to themselves, and many just thought it was a miracle they survived the drought. The once large happy pride became small and weak. The drought did end, but Kanu’s mother never returned and constantly his father reminded Kanu that it was their king’s fault she was dead.
As an effect of the drought, Kanu was very weak and before the tragedy he was smaller than the other cubs. He grew a little more each day, though, and believed he just had to wait to be the strongest male. The cubs in the pride reached the age where all they wanted to do was play fight but Kanu was found unliked and no one wanted to play with him. Alone, Kanu tried spending time with his father but even his own father looked at him with disgust. Kanu decided to take action. Still just a young cub, Kanu began training every day. He couldn’t wait any longer for nature to just make him big and strong. He needed it to happen now, so training became his life. Kanu chased after everything. It worked and Kanu believed he was ready. He challenged the strongest cub in the pride to fight him, but the fight wasn’t just playing now. The cubs were seriously attacking and hurting each other. Kanu got in trouble with the other adults, but received the first ever smile from his father, who was happy with his son’s growth. This changed Kanu forever. Ever since then, fighting was Kanu’s favorite thing to do.
As time went on, Kanu learned from his father that they were being severely neglected by everyone being the only other males in the pride besides the king. They were less cared for and Kanu understood everything now. He promised his father that one day they would be the rulers over everyone. Too bad this promise was not kept because only two days after Kanu made that promise to his father, there was a fight. Kanu’s father was killed. Now, teenage Kanu, was lost and alone. He remained aloof from the others, secretly plotting.
In his mid-teens, Kanu had already come up with a plan. Just like he promised his father, he was going to rule them all. He wanted to take down the king and his family, and take the kingdom for himself. As a part of Kanu’s plan, Kanu needed to find someone who could help him get close to the king. He knew the perfect lioness too. Her name was Dawn and she was the most trustworthy of the pride. She was sweet and kind but, most importantly, easily tricked. Kanu used his amazing acting skills to force Dawn to believe he was good at heart. He talked about his life as a tragedy, which it was, but he made way overdramatic. He convinced her to fall in love with him and it didn’t take long before his entire plan was working. Dawn did truly believe they were in love; two opposites that fell in love. That was not the case at all, though.
Once a young adult, Kanu did not waste time. He used Dawn to get close to the royal family, though others were still on edge around him. Kanu’s plan was very well-thought through. He had every detail planned in his attack but he acted too soon. Kanu attacked the king, but the family was expecting this and was ready. Dawn was completely caught off guard. The managed to stop Kanu before things got worse. With the king’s sharp claws pointed at Kanu’s neck, Kanu was sure he was dead but the king knew Kanu was trouble. So, instead of death Kanu was banished. He was not alone, though. Dawn soon followed him. She was embarrassed and humiliated for every believing Kanu loved her and, worst of all, she was carrying his son. Dawn went with Kanu out of their old pride, and started off in the middle of nowhere. Dawn had no clue what she was doing, since she was so sure it was love she and Kanu had. It was all lies and they were now lost. She got enough sense to leave him but it was too late. Kanu knew Dawn was going to have his son, and he wasn’t going to break a promise to his father. Kanu came up with a new plan, and forced Dawn to go along with it.
The two traveled miles and miles away. Dawn gave birth to a healthy male cub, who she named Asante. Kanu did not care what his name was, since he was positive everyone would be calling Asante ‘prince’ one day soon. Dawn cared for their son, even though he was Kanu’s. She loved Asante just the same but Kanu could care less. He claimed that when Asante was an adult, then Kanu would pay attention. For now, it was Dawn’s job. When Asante was a cub, they found the Pride Lands. Again, Kanu charmed his way in. He told a horribly tragic story that was all false. The king, Kovu, and the queen, Kiara, felt bad for the poor family and happily let them join. Kanu simply had to wait for his plan to really be set in motion. He stayed away from the others, making sure none of his actions ruined his new plan. Kanu forced Dawn and Asante to not tell anyone and fear of Kanu filled them more than anything else. Dawn comforted Asante often from his father’s harsh ways. Kanu didn’t mind, though. He only needed Asante to take the thrown when he died. That was all Asante was to him: someone he could put his problems onto.
As time went on, Asante grew into a kind and friendly lion much like his mother. It wasn’t until Asante found himself in love, when Kanu started really paying attention. Asante had fallen in love with his best friend, since they were cubs, Shani. Shani was also the princess. She was Kiara and Kovu’s daughter and, suddenly, Kanu knew his plan could start now. Kanu followed Asante and Shani for the longest time and watched as his son told Shani everything. Asante explained to Shani that his father was forcing him to do things, and same with his mother. Shani took it well, but quickly ran to her father Kovu. Kanu had to act fast, so he raced into action and captured Shani. He planned on using Shani as bait and when her father, Kovu, and older brother, Kipawa, came to rescue her Kanu would attack them. Asante ran to Kipawa for help and the two raced off to save Shani. Kanu was shocked to find his own son fighting against him, but did not care. Kipawa attacked first, while Asante ran to find where Kanu was keeping Shani. It was a heated battle between kipawa and Kanu but when Asante got the courage to, finally, fight back he did. Kanu was ended. Dawn and Asante got to stay in the Pride Lands and Asante even ended up marrying Shani. Kanu’s life started bad and ended bad, but at least he could be with his mother and father once more.
