History: Nuala was the first born cub of Kipawa and Hasina. At first her parents were very proud to have a healthy cub to give their kingdom to, only to then realize she was blind. Nuala has a younger brother. Kipawa didn't want to take the kingdom away from his daughter but he didn't seem to know how she would go on with her blindness. Nuala's brother, Mwesi, wasn't perfect. He was very small and weak. Unsure who would be the future ruler, Kipawa asked Rafiki to raise both of his cubs. They would decided later.
Everyone assumed one of the cubs would die before even reaching their teens and the one who lived would take the throne. Kipawa and Hasina refused to try and have another cub because they stilled believed in the two they had. In the end, both cubs survived into their childhood but Kipawa could still not pick. Nuala was blind but Mwesi was weak, small, and got sick easily. So, he decided to train both and which ever one did best in their lessons would rule the kingdom.
As a cub Nuala was very shy. She only trusted in her family, and a few close friends. Nuala and her brother got along great, despite the fact that they were competing for the throne. When ever Nuala was teased for being blind she would find her brother, who always found a way to cheer her up. Nuala was very close with her father. They two enjoyed sitting in the shade on a hot day and just talking. Kipawa always found a way to make his daughter laugh. He was very inspiring too. He told her many stories and those inspired Nuala. She began to dream about being able to see, and becoming queen of the Pride Lands. These dreams were Nuala's motivation.
Nuala often went with her cousins and brother. They were a close family and were always willing to get into trouble together. Together they found all sorts of new places. One day, Nuala was off with her cousins. They were wandering around, looking for trouble, when Nuala was distracted by a noise. The noise spooked her, although her cousins or brother did not hear it. She searched around, using her other senses to try and find out what it was but she didn't find anything. When Nuala turned around, her cousins and brother were gone. She was all alone. Poor lost Nuala wandered around for some time, calling for her family. It seemed like forever until Mwesi, finally, realized his sister was gone. They went back to look for her but Nuala still wandered around. Suddenly, she heard the same noise. Nuala was so scared she could not move and another cub pounced on her. Nuala screamed for help but just heard laughter. The other cub thought it was funny. He apologized for scaring her, he just wanted to play. The cub introduced himself as Khan. Just then, Mwesi found his sister but their father also found them. Kipawa very upset that they left the Pride Lands. Khan quickly ran off when Kipawa came. Kipawa brought the cubs home, and they were in a lot of trouble.
Nuala could not get Khan out of her head. What was a cub doing out in the middle of nowhere? Her brother just brushed it off and told her to ignore it. He was probably some sort of rogue from a dangerous family. Nuala did follow her brother's advice but she could not escape Khan. A few days later she ran into him, when she was waiting for her brother to come with her to the waterhole. Nuala recognized his voice when he said hello to her and she, quickly, pounded questions on him. Khan tried his best to answer them. Turns out Khan ran away from home and has been searching for a new place to live for a while. Nuala felt bad for Khan. Khan offered to take Nuala somewhere fun but she refused. She explained she was waiting for his brother but Khan insisted. He started walking, and Nuala followed but only tripped over her own paws. Khan couldn't help but laugh. He jokingly asked, "Are you blind or something?" This made Nuala very upset, and she began to cry. Khan, realizing his mistake, apologized. Nuala forgave him but Mwesi was coming so Khan had to leave.
Nuala didn't see Khan after that for quiet a while. She began to get back into her regular routine. She worked hard at her lessons, with her brother, and the two grew into strong teenagers, despite their rough beginnings. Nuala grew into a very beautiful lioness, and was dealing with her blindness a lot better now. She was out alone, relaxing in the shade when she heard someone behind her. She asked if anyone was there but no one answered. Nuala ignored it, thinking her ears were playing tricks on her but suddenly hyenas jumped out to attack her. Nuala tried to scare them away, but they knew she was blind and thought she was an easy target. Nuala heard someone coming to her rescue. He roared loudly at the hyenas, and Nuala knew it was not her father or brother. The lion fought off the hyenas, saving Nuala. He said hello to her and she recognized his voice. She was very excited to see Khan again and asked where he was. Khan was traveling around, but always made sure to come back to the Pride Lands to check up on her. Nuala and Khan spent the rest of the day together, and the two became great friends. Nuala took Khan back to Pride Rock, to meet her family. Kipawa thanked Khan for saving his daughter and, surprisingly, warmed up to him quickly. Mwesi was another story. He didn't like Khan. Just the way he looked made Mwesi not trust him.
Khan was allowed to stay in the Pride Lands, and he often spent a lot of time with Nuala. Nuala was developing a big crush on Khan, he was her hero after all. The two had a lot of fun together. Khan even opened up to Nuala and told her why he ran away. Apparently, Khan's father died when he was just a cub and his mother was so upset she ignored him. He felt like such a bother he decided to leave. Nuala was able to comfort Khan but Mwesi was not so sure Khan was the nice guy his sister thought he was. He began a mission to expose Khan as a bad guy and, sadly, after that Mwesi and Nuala weren't so close anymore.
No matter what Mwesi said, Khan always found a way to prove he was a good guy. Nuala could not believe how immature and rude her brother was being towards Khan. As time went on, their relationship got worse. Nuala and Mwesi were now competing for the throne but now it was serious. As adults, they were running out of time and no matter what their parents did Mwesi and Nuala became enemies. Mwesi had fallen in love as well, with a lioness named Etana. Of course, Nuala did not like Etana and it seemed the once close siblings were now too far deep in hate.
The day came where Kipawa had to pick the new ruler of the Pride Lands but Mwesi was no where to be found. Nuala forgot all about her hate for her brother and helped look for him. Mwesi was trying to leave the Pride Lands, sick of constantly competing against his sister. Nuala and Kipawa did find him before it was too late. Nuala never wanted her brother to leave, despite all the mean things she said to him. Nuala decided she did not want to be queen. If it messed up her family, she did not want anything to do with it. Mwesi did take the throne but made his sister the Hand of the King, to help him with every decision he made.
Nuala and Khan became mates and her brother became a great king. Nuala was happy with her life and didn't mind not being the ruler of the Pride Lands. She knew it wasn't the life for her.
