History:
Birth-
Kanu was born as the runt of the litter, though he was only a little bit smaller than his siblings. His parents didn't think he could make it and just decided to leave him. Alone and helpless Kanu laid there. It wasn't long until a beautiful young lioness took him in. The lioness was Akasha. She was a young adult lioness who had run away from her pride, after being forced to marry the rude and ruthless prince. She had run away after they found out she was going to have a child. Akasha was going to raise the cub by herself but sadly the cub was born dead. Only weeks later is when she found Kanu and she couldn't help but think he looked somewhat like her cub.
Childhood-
Kanu and Akasha got along great and though he knew he was adopted Kanu treated Akasha like his real mother. The two would travel, looking for a new pride to settle in but their journey would be much longer than expected. Akasha was a good mother. She was able to provide food, water, and shelter for Kanu. In the morning she would go hunt and Kanu would go off and explore. Kanu would find all sorts of trouble but made sure he could find his way back to Akasha. The two made a great pair and Kanu thought he couldn't be any happier.
Akasha soon got very sick and Kanu took it upon himself to take care of her. He tried hunting but only caught small animals, good thing he was fast enough to catch many of them. Akasha didn't seem to get better though. Then one night while they were watching the rain she instructed Kanu to keep traveling without her. Kanu was shocked, being away from Akasha was unbearable. She was the reason why he was alive. Kanu, upset, ran outside in the rain to try and calm himself. He returned not long after to find Akasha gone. Kanu did as he was told and kept walking.
It was harder to be alone. Kanu didn't find any motivation to go hunt, except his growling stomach, or play, or even explore. Kanu even stopped talking. He didn't stop at prides that might want to accept him. He was sure he would soon forget how to talk all together.
It was then when he found the Pride Lands but he did not stop. He decided it would be easier to just walk straight through. That's when he ran into Chaka, the king at the time and the son of Kiara and Kovu. Chaka saw the poor cub and tried to find out what he was doing. Kanu just ignored the lion and kept walking. "Ignore him. You're just passing through," Kanu told himself. Chaka just believed the cub was without a family, or home. He tried his best to get him to speak but Kanu refused. Chaka, fed up with the cubs act, sighed, "You're as silent as my friend Akala." Kanu turned around, thinking he had said Akasha, but sadly chaka explained Akala was a friend of his who lived in the pride but she was not Akasha. Kanu soon felt the tears sting his eyes at the mention of Akasha. Chaka brought the cub back to the den. There he was given food and water. Kanu did tell them what had he been through, and he almost did without getting upset.
The Pride Landers accepted Kanu to stay with them and though they did not make it official Kanu knew none of them wanted him to leave. Kanu didn't talk much still. He only trusted a few people but one would become his best friend for life. It was the morning after a long storm and the pride lands were covered in mud. Kanu was taking a walk when another cub, who was running, slammed into him. They fell into a deep mud puddle. The cub just laughed and splashed around. "My name is Penda," She said with a smile. Kanu introduced himself and Penda challenged him to a wrestling match. Kanu hesitated but then accepted. The two became best friends after that and soon played almost every day.
Teenage years-
When Kanu turned a teenager he didn't change much. He wasn't the small runt of the litter now. Penda and him were still friends but he became pretty busy with helping Chaka, in return for changing his life. While many of his friends teased him about how Penda and him would make a good couple Kanu knew it wouldn't come true. Penda was not his type and he was not her type either. They were simply good friends and at the time romance was the last thing on Kanu's mind.
Adulthood-
Kanu turned into a strong adult. He became a little more social but still enjoyed his time alone in the quiet. His friend Penda had fallen in love with a lion named Lokar. Everything seemed normal.
One day, Kanu was out, taking a nap under a tree. When many other lions came to talk among themselves and Kanu just thought they were too loud. He tried to get some rest in the den but others were already there talking about Auni, Chaka's son and the new king. Kanu then tried to go to the grasslands but noisy cubs crowded that place too. A little annoyed Kanu left the pride lands, just to get some time to himself and later return for dinner. He wandered around, being very careful. When he soon found a very beautiful place. It was a jungle but not the biggest jungle he heard of. Everything was quiet. The only noise was from a few birds that flew over Kanu. Kanu made himself a nice hammock and fell asleep. Kanu loved this place and when he woke up he went exploring. Soon he found a large and beautiful waterfall. Strange and brightly colored plants grew everywhere. This place was Kanu's dream home. Although, he did have to return home to the Pride Lands and see his family and friends. Kanu visits that place everyday but never tells anyone. If everyone knew then it wouldn't be special.
