Personality: The ankylosaur known only as “Old Rooter” is, on the surface, as tough and grizzled as his bone-studded hide. Yet once he meets Littlefoot it doesn't take long for him to show a softer, gentler side, saying what little he can to comfort the young longneck after the loss of his mother.
History: Where Old Rooter might have come from and where he might have ended up has been the subject of considerable curiosity among fans, as he is never seen after that brief appearance in the first movie. Whether he made it to the Great Valley (if he was even headed there himself), or if he met his end somewhere along the way is unknown, but his character has left an enduring footprint in the hearts of many fans.
Other: In the Illustrated book version of The Land Before Time, Old Rooter is misidentified as a turtle. His species in the movie is unknown, though his lack of a tail club and full bony armor are consistent with a Nodosaurus.
