History: Grandma Longneck was part of Littlefoot's herd when he hatched in the first movie, but became separated from him during the earthquake. She wasn't seen again until the end of that movie and had no lines, but she has been part of every subsequent movie.
Personality: Grandma Longneck takes raising her grandson very seriously. Full of kindness and quick to look out for others – particularly the young – she handles various crises throughout the series. Even when it's her own mate's life in danger she accepts what comes her way and doesn't let fear or despair get the better of her. Rather than being apathetic, however, she is quick to respond to pressing dangers, doling out intructions or words of encouragement as the situation demands.
Family: Little is known about Grandma Longneck's family apart from her mate and grandson. She is revealed in a storybook of the first movie to be Littlefoot's maternal grandmother – that is, his grandmother on his mother's side.
Other: The fact that Grandma plays the foremost role in discussions with the wandering herd in The Land Before Time IV: Journey Through the Mists has been treated as evidence that she is related to them; while this is not official information, it makes sense in light of Grandpa's history as a nomad going from herd to herd; presumably she parted ways with her herd after they met.
