Littlefoot's unnamed mother is, if not as gifted with ingenuity as her son, certainly the source of his steadfast faith in the Great Valley. She has never see it herself, but she assures him that it is there, telling him that “some things you see with your eyes; others, you see with your heart.” She is also a mother of unquestionable love, ultimately giving her very life to save Littlefoot and Cera from Sharptooth's jaws.
Despite her virtues and vision, Littlefoot's Mother might be faulted for being a little too set in her ways concerning friends; when Littlefoot asks her why he can't play with other kinds of dinosaurs, she only says that they “never do anything together... it's always been that way.” However, as noted above, she didn't let that get in the way of saving Cera's life as well as Littlefoot's.
She appears to have an almost supernatural aspect to her in the first film, as a beam of light appears shortly after her death and heralds the arrival of a treestar - thought to be the same one she had given to Littlefoot before. Also, a cloud later appears in her likeness, leading Littlefoot into the Great Valley. Whether these are actual manifestations of her or the connection is in Littlefoot's mind is unclear, though the light certainly would seem to be deliberately guided. She is also referenced or hinted at in several subsequent movies, including two scenes in which fans have suggested (debatably) that her spirit is shown manifested as a star and a cloud, respectively.
Family: Apparently, Littlefoot's grandparents are her parents. She was also survived by her mate Bron, and apparently had two other eggs besides Littlefoot's, though they were seen to be broken by a unknown cause.
Seen in: The Land Before Time, The Land Before Time X: The Great Longneck Migration. She is also hinted at in The Mysterious Island (V) and Journey to Big Water. The TV episode The Legend of the Story Speaker also includes a flashback of a young longneck playing with Littlefoot's Grandpa; many suppose this to be Littlefoot's mother shown as a child.
Trivia: When shown in a flashback in The Great Longneck Migration, she was shown as blue like her parents instead of brown as in the movie, most likely to make it easier to tell her from Bron.
