Personality: It's impossible to know Cera for very long without knowing that she's a spitfire. Argumentative, stubborn, and proud to be that way, she doesn't back down easily and isn't afraid to resort to fghting dirty, even going so far as to insult Littlefoot's mother (some gratitude!).
Despite her obvious flaws, Cera does have a gentler side. Though she hates to show it, she craves company, even if it's not from her first choice of friends. Furthermore, once her loyalty has been gained, she'll watch their backs just as persistently as she once tried to drive them away. She's still a royal pain at times, but at least her friends know who to call when they need something smashed.
History: Cera first appears in The Land Before Time, literally butting heads with her siblings (and even her father) before she's all the way out of the egg. She has gone on to appear in virtually all of the subsequent material, possibly being the second-most popular character after Littlefoot.
Cera seems to be a bit more mature in the cartoon series, showing more of a tendency to let sensitivity overcome rashness on occasion, as seen in Star Day Surprise. However, she is still generally the first one to tease or belittle others and the last one to involve grown-ups when such might be a good plan.
Family: In the first movie, Cera mentions both of her parents and multiple sisters (she is shown to be the youngest of her clutch). The fact that of these only her father is seen at the end of the movie and after would suggest that the rest died during the journey to the Great Valley. It is indicated later, though, that at least one sibling (and a considerably older one at that) of hers did survive, evidenced by the appearance of the twins in The Secret of Saurus Rock, who are Cera's niece and nephew.
Later on, in Invasion of the Tinysauruses, Cera's father meets an old female friend named Tria who eventually becomes Cera's stepmother. She and Cera's father (aka “Topsy”) have one child, Tricia, who is Cera's half-sister. Despite her initial distrust, Cera later enjoys a very close bond with her stepmother, and has been seen to be a very dutiful older sister to Tricia, serving as both a protector and, at times, an interpreter in a relationship not unlike that between Ducky and Spike. Just how serious she is about this responsibility is hinted at by the fact that, in some cases, she seems to understand her half-sister's baby talk better than Tria does.
Friends: Cera's attitude complicates many of her friendships and sometimes those of others around her, but she manages to be friends with Littlefoot, Ducky, Petrie, and Spike. Of these, Littlefoot is considered her best friend in spite of their major differences.
Struggles: In the first movie, Cera has a very bigoted attitude toward all other dinosaurs which leads her into conflict with Littlefoot. When Littlefoot turns out, in fact, to be in the right, she briefly leaves the group “too proud to admit that she'd gone the wrong way.” For reasons never fully explained, she ultimately finds the rest of the group, helps them to defeat Sharptooth, and joins them in reaching the Great Valley.
In later movies, Cera frequently finds herself at odds with the others and has some difficulty balancing her tough-headedness with the need to work as part of a team. She also is very jealous of her relationships, as evidenced by her attitude towards Ali in Journey Through the Mists and towards Tria in Invasion of the Tinysauruses. Despite having learned some things about acknowledging and relying on the strengths of others, she still harbors a somewhat imperialist attitude about her own species – a vice often fed, unfortunately, by her father.
Trivia: In the original planning for The Land Before Time, Cera was intended to be a male Triceratops named Bambo, and her design was somewhat older-looking (with all three horns and a more armored-looking back).
