I tried to use GIMP a lot of times, and I still don't know how to use it... I think it's a very complicated program D:
But I think I will download this program just for shading, because I don't quite know how to shade on Paint.NET...

I took a look through your gallery and I thought you were using Photoshop for your renders. They're really good, by the way.
I used to use Paint.net a while back, but then I got my laptop (and my desktop computer with PDN broke //cries) and I downloaded gimp. The program's free to download and virus free as well; it's pretty much a photoshop copy and it has a lot more options than PDN (in my opinion) like different layer options (burn, overlay, subtract, difference).

I used gimp to do the shading (I shade a /lot/ better than this now; what I did here was a basic gradient shading)
I could send you some links to gimp shading tutorials if you want
