He then passed his iPad around to his surrounding teammates to let them have a look at the stats, and he encouraged them to show it to the other tables for the rest of the team to analyze for important information on their playing progress.
After a few minutes, Scamp, also wanting to know the details on Red's injury, went over to the bar area to speak to his father, who was ordering another drink. Tramp told him everything that he had heard from Reede's mouth and the action that was to be taken from there. That then gave Scamp an idea; which was something that he had been thinking about for a while.
"So as we are now down to 29 players," Scamp asked. "I suppose that leaves an open spot for another player to join the team, does it?"
"Well, the maximum is 30, so I assume so." Tramp replied. "But that decision is up to the Coach."
"I might just talk to him for a minute." Scamp therefore responded; and before Tramp could speak again, Scamp went over to Reede and talked with him for a couple of minutes. The whole time they talked, Tramp looked on intriguingly. After they had finished, Scamp came back over to his 'old man'.
"He just agreed to the vacant spot on the roster." Scamp said to him.
"And you have someone in mind?"
"Buster."
"Buster?!" Tramp replied in surprise and shock. He was not expecting this; especially after that dog just mentioned had betrayed both him and his son and also locked Scamp in the pound. "Are you serious?"
"Perfectly serious." His son responded with a straight face without showing any sign of fear or reluctance. "I know that it sounds dodgy, but I think there are a few things that he needs help with. We can give him that. I do not think that he is all bad. I think that his mind just got a bit twisted up and delusional after he thought you ditched him. We can help him get out of that state of mind and start him over fresh if we just reason with him somehow. Plus I think that rugby would be right up his alley even after his experience on the streets. You once told me that Buster was exceptionally hard working and would always be willing to attempt any challenge that you would offer or that would come his way. Plus I know that his fitness and muscular physic would allow him to handle the physicallity on the field and definately enhance whatever performance he is eligible to give. If he had enough fun being in the Junkyard, I know that he would definitely enjoy rugby."
"I see what you are saying," Tramp resonded, seemingly curious. "But you are willing to help him even after he got you locked in the pound?"
"It was a mean act, I know. But we have to realize that he did it to 'get back at you for 'leaving' him'; not that he was in his correct state of mind. So basically he wanted revenge. He probably thinks that we are his foes. But we have to show him that we are not what he thinks we are. If we try and get back at him, we will then prove that we are indeed an enemy in return and there will be constant fighting until one kills the other. Remember what Nelson Mandela said; this quote slightly combined with a separate one of his other quotes and also re-worded: "If we attempt revenge on them, we prove that we are what they feared we would be and just reinforce the cycle of fear between us. We have to be better than that. We have to suprise them with the compassion; with restraint and generosity. Otherwise the cycle of fear will destroy us." So, do you see what I am getting at? If we show Buster our true noble colours, he will definitely think better of us and we may very well become friends again."
Tramp thought about that for a minute and concluded that his son had a very valid and wise point. Plus being Buster's former protege, he knew him very well, and so Tramp eventually decided that he could indeed be able to help him out in some way.
"It is very wise and noble for you to think of it this way, Scamp." Tramp therefore remarked, impressed with his son's amazing intellect as well as his ability to learn from inspiration by other people. "Alright, then; we'll do it. But how do we get to him?"
"I have an idea..." Scamp replied; and they both headed away from the bar area and into a quieter spot to discuss their plan...
