orange amusement park banner blinked brilliant yellow lights.  The lights temporarily blinded Buster and Angela leaned her head down and grabbed Star, pulling him up on the rotating board in front of the banner.

“Hey, babe, miss me?”  Star said, hanging from her jaws.

She looked at him, though her eyes were much more serious than hers.  If the point of this wasn’t to rescue him, Star wouldn’t put it passed her to drop him right now.

“Okay, guess not.  Where are the pups?”

“Down and the yard where we live and let!”  Scamp sang in a not so melodic tune from the top of the car.

“Hey!”  Buster yelled, his eyesight coming back.  “That’s my car!”

As Scamp saw Buster and some of the other dogs approaching, he jumped off the car and hoped on the nearest pile, kicking random items.  Some of the dogs lost their footing at they were hit with bottles, toys and items broken beyond recognition.

Angela pulled Star all the way on the beam.

He noticed the mattress that balanced her on the other side.

Angel was running around the junkyard, also kicking small items at the junkyard dogs.  Using a tube, bottles flew at alarming speeds and broke into thousands of fragments upon impact.  Some of the dogs couldn’t take anymore and ran away.

            “Sissies!”  Buster called after them.

He continued to make his way up the hill, towards the car, towards Scamp, with the rest of his dogs close behind him.

Scamp sat confidently in the car’s front seat.  He waved to them playfully as they approached, merely a feet away from him.

“You never learn,” he said, and jumped out of the car.

Star and Angela were standing on top of the car.  They growled at Buster and slammed their paws on the hood, tipping the car forward.  Buster and the others began to back away.  The car wobbled a little, and as Star and Angela pushed themselves off of it, the car flew forward, chasing after a frantic dog gang.

With the car after them, the dogs ran straight for the junkyard pipe.  Outside, they bumped into another car.  The man inside the car looked at the pile of dogs, half-conscious against his vehicle.

“I hear a bonus!”  The man said, taking out his net and placing the dogs in the car marked DOG POUND.

5:

Scamp, Angel, Star and Angela howled and barked happily, as they saw Buster and the others loaded into the car.

            The rain was becoming lighter.

“I hope Buster likes collars,” Angel said.

Star and Angel catch each other’s eyes, but they abruptly turned away from each other, still unsure of each other’s feelings.

Later that night, with Buster defeated and everything back to normal, Star and Angela walked Scamp and Angel home.

            “So, what happened?”  Angel asked.

Star and Angela looked at each other, obviously feeling odd about bringing up a bad history.

“When you were born,” surprisingly Star started, “I abandoned you, and your brothers and sister.  I was afraid, Angel.  Your mother did everything she could to protect you.”

“I was taken from you by the pound,” Angela went on, “I yelled for all to stay in the alley where I had hid you.  I was adopted and I escaped the day they brought me home, to find you, but when I came back, none of you were there.  Do you remember?”

Angel thought back, to when she was a baby.

“I think I remember the kennel…the pound, that must be the darkness I saw before my first human family.”

            “Your first?”  Angela asked.

“I’ve had five.  I was put on the streets a few times, until,” she looked at Scamp.  “Well, Scamp and his family took me in.”

“And you don’t think they’ll get rid of you?”  Star asked, real concern lacing his voice.

“I know they won’t,” she said, surely.

They came across Scamp and Angel’s house.  The lights were on, and thankfully, nobody was outside.

“What about you two?”  Scamp asked.

“I have to go back to my humans, they’ll worry about me,” Angela said.  “And I need a new bow.”

Star looked at the empty street behind him.

“I can’t live in a home, the streets are for me,” said Star.

“I am so glad to have met you, Angel.  You have no idea how much hope you’ve given me.  I’m sorry I couldn’t have been there for you when you were younger,” she said, and licked her pup on the cheek.

“Maybe one day we will find your littermates,” Star said.  “Thank you, Angel, for everything.  I can never make amends for what I’ve done to this family, but I now I can go on.”

“We I ever see you two again?”  Angel asked.

“Of course!”  Angela yipped.  “We will visit often, but until then, we love you, Angel.”

Angel bounded up to the two older dogs and nuzzled herself on both of their front legs.

“I love you, too,” the little yellow dog said.

Star and Angela smiled down at their long-lost pup and turned to go back home.

“So, I’m guessing this is a bad time to start over and ask you out?”  Star said, as they walked down the short flight of stairs.

            “Not on your life, mutt.”

“How exactly does that height thing work?”

“I’ve got Pomeranian on my mother’s side.  I doubt she’ll be that short forever, but it’s a good height for her, anyway.”

Scamp and Angel laughed, hearing her parents talk about her as if they had indeed known her her whole life.  She would definitely see them again.

“What an adventure, huh, tenderfoot?”  Angel asked.

“You should listen to me more often,” Scamp chuckled.

Just as they were about to sep through the doggie-door, Jim Dear opened the front door while putting on his coat.  Behind him was a worried Darling, holding their baby Junior.  Tramp and Lady were at the door, ready to walk for miles to search for their son.  Scamp’s sisters—Annette, Colette and Danielle
