Manik smelled the ground. He looked up. "From the looks of it, you live in the place where my dad used to live, and where I was born?" Annette nodded. "I know where that place is! It might take a while to get there. You want to go now?" "Yeah, the sooner the better!" Manik looked around. "Okay, but we have to hurry!" Annette nodded and followed him.

"Have you checked everywhere?" Tramp asked Lady. "Yes. She is nowhere in sight!" Lady said. Tramp nuzzled her. "Don't worry. We'll find her. If she is still in Hollywood, she's smart. She'll find her way home."

Manik stared at a certain river. "It's too deep to cross, and too long to go around. We might have to jump it." he said. Annette looked unsure. "I don't know. I'm not a good jumper..." Manik smiled. "Sure you are! Here, let me help you." Very carefully, he jumped the river, and jumped back. "I'll go again, and stay. You follow." he said. Then he jumped. "C'mon, Annette. It's easy!" Annette stared at the long river. "I-I'll try." She tried to jump, but she fell in. "Hang on Annette!" Manik shouted as he jumped in. The water moved faster and faster. Slowly, Annette began to sink. Manik jumped inside. He grabed her scruff, than pulled her out. "You okay?" Annette choked up some water, shaking. "Yeah. It's my fault. I should've gotten a better head start!" Manik shook him head. "No, iit was mine. Insted of making you cross, I should have just helped you over"

Once dark fell, Manik found a place for them to spend the night. "It's nothing special, but It'll do." he said. Annette yawned. "Good. I'm so tired." Manik looked at her. "If you happen to see my dad, let me know." Annette nodded at fell into a very deep sleep.

Scamp looked around. Him, Tramp, Lady, and his sisters and Angel had started a search party to find Annette. "Annette!" Everyone called. Angel walked to Scamp. "Buster moved to Hollywood. You don't think he found her, do you?" Scamp sighed. "I sure hope not."

Manik beamed. "We're halfway there!" Annette seemed unhappy but acted happy. "Oh, yay!" "We'd better get moving, Annette." Annette nodded. They started walking again when Annette said somthing. "Boy, I sure am hungry! I know you street dogs will eat anything. Do you have anything else besides garbage?" Manik thought for a  moment, and said, "I have an idea! Wait here!" Annette waited puzzled while Manik left.

"There has to be somthing here.." Manik said aloud. "A-ha! a rabbit!" Manik stalked the rabbit and pounced. He brought it back to Annette. "See? What did I tell ya?" Annette stared at the meat. "Oh, I've never eaten rabbit before." Manik smiled. "Than you've never lived! C'mon, take a bite!" Annette's hunger was stronger than her taste. She took a big bite. "Hmm... yum!" she said. It was good! "What did I tell ya?" Annette grinned. "I guess you do know a lot, wild dog!"

"Wow," Annette stared at Manik. "Wow what?" "Look, aren't we almost there?" Annette looked up. "I think your right. This is Aunt Sarah's house" "How much further is it to your house?" Annette stared past the house. "Not much. A few miles." "We'd better get going."

Walking a few miles seemed harder than they thought. As if it really took a while for a dog to walk about half an hour,  but Annette seemed to want to stay. She felt safe with him. He was a street dog. She was a house dog. It could never work out. Unless she stayed with him. But they were puppies, it would be hard for puppies to avoid the dog catcher than adults. It wasn't going to be easy. But with a teacher like Manik, how hard could it be?

It began to rain. Manik found some shelter. It seemed to take days, but it was over in an hour. Annette was silent for a while deep in thought. When she got back, what was she going to do? Stay with Manik, or go home. She was born a house dog. A pampered pup. Could she leave that all behind to go and become a street dog with Manik? Yes.

Night fell, and they had to stop. "In the morning we should get there."  Annette nodded and fell asleep. The next morning they were on their way again. "And here we are!" Annette seemed sad. "What's wrong, Annette?" Annette looked at him. "I-I don't want to leave you." Manik laughed. "Wait, you're serious? I'm not going back to Hollywood. It's nice here." Annette shook her head. "No, I mean I want to stay with you....."
