Amd yes, I agree with your point on them being together. I have had feelings of unreturned love, with an old friend, when he was with one of my good friends, actually. I knew it would just be them, though, and let it be. I'm pretty sure he knew how close we were before, though, the feelings we had...when we were 6. XDDD.
That doesn't mean he has some sort of lust, angst, or longing for her, though. And now, with Stefan gone, the stress and loneliness may end up causing things....0.e. He may want to be some sort of gentleman, but, then again, Damon IS Damon, afterall, and left to her own devices, and under thr pressure of Katherine's words, I could easily see her allowing anything. Of course, guilt hits the girl so hard, she'll end up being a "kiss-and-tell" person. Grovelling at Stefan's knees. Pssh.
And anyways, WHEN they acquire Stefan back, he'll be as crazed as he was in Season 1. Damon won't let him near her. They'll mostly tranquilize him, in order to begin a detox process. And who can forget how close they were in the last season, when it happened? Their..."friendship," whateer you'd like to call it, is stronger than it was in season 1. Elena will most likely be upset, and Damon....hmm...who knows what he'll have planned.
Also, I don't know if you had seen these "rumors," but was I the only one who heard of Katherine's sister, "Catelle," and the first doopelganger, "Charlotte," being on the show? Rumors predicted them to be in the last episodes of Season 2, (being false, of course,) but, perhaps, in Season 3?
