Well, I just have a quick question for the people here who ride horses. Do you show? What is your horse's name? What kind of classes?

I ride a Thoroughbred cross named Skeeter in Hunter/Jumper Classes.

I go riding every week at a riding school. I ride a range of horses. I ride a bay mare called Cassie, a grey gelding called Perry, a ginormous flea bitten grey called Bailey, a bay mare called Polly and I used to ride a chestnut pony called Merry at my old riding school. I just have lessons on how to ride really. I've been riding for over 2 years.

I have a horse named Sheik and Shake It. Hes and ex race thorubred. We are re-training him for hunter jumpers and all that. I show him in 4-H and am working on teaching him to do brral racing and polls. I also show a quarter horse named Johnson in english classes. We are also training him to jump, in about 2 months my instructer had us jumping 2 foot 6. Yup thats about it.

Okay! Now, here's a new kicker...how long have you been riding and what do you do in your lessons?

I've been riding for three years (I know, hard to believe eh?) and I jump 2'6 boxes and fences. On Saturday I got dumped by a black horse named Fez and I'm STILL sore. *rubs back*

I've been riding for about 2 years and all I usually do in my lesson is do alot of trotting, a good amount of cantering, and usually two jumps at the end. Which are about 2, 1 high. We can choose to trot over them or canter.

I go on hacks when I go away in Ireland but personally, I prefer to see horses running wild rather than with saddles and harnesses and stuff. People will argue, I know but that's just how I feel. I have nothing against those who show horses. Not really.

My horse Phoenix resently tore his tendon out in pasture but befpre that we were jumping 2 6' and 2'9. Now we are working on getting him to be more supple and to bend more. I have been riding about 6 years.

(HSW. Give Pheonix a carrot for me and tell him to get better!)

Starsky, I totally see where you're going on that. Whenever I turn skeeter out, it's just exhilerating to see him run and buck playfully.

Thats cool that you get to train a horse from scratch. I think it would be fun. Sir Phoenix is only 7 (turns 8 this january) and he is the phco of our barn. He can act mature one second and crazy the next. I would have it not other way cause i love the chalange. I'm also the only one who thinks his anitics are funny, but hey thats ok.

Skeeter is...I think 11? But he's such an awesome horse. I rode a grey gelding for my friend this weekend and someone had just ridden Skeeter. This person was soo mean to him. She cropped him when he did the wrong thing, well, he ws following her aids, but she was asking the wrong things. I was soo sad, so I trotted up to her and was like, "don't do that, he's really confused." But when he was thrown back in his stall hot and sweaty, I personally cooled him out and groomed him. I felt so bad for him!

I own a bay quarter horse, he is not shown but does cuts every once in a while. Not the best horse, he's very skittish but I love him :)

I love horses! I agree, I would rather see a horse running with it's pals in a field than performing with a rider in an arena. I've been riding saddle-seat for nearly four years. I'm pretty sure saddle-seat saddles and the style are based off of the way southern gentlemen rode and the required clothes for shows are based off of their attire. I've got to two horses and here are their names.
My first horse is a Pleasure Walking Horse registered as Radashak but just called The Ratt. He's black with a white spot on his forehead that has a grey rim. He's a chow-hound  and used to show in pleasure classes but hasn't for a while but this summer I hope to trail-ride and maybe even show him if he's up to it.
My second horse is a Performance Walking Horse registered as Take Extra Cash to Rio, but everyone calls him Ole Rio. He's a solid sorrel and when you shave (clip) his top-hair for the summer, his color reminds me of cheese so he got his other nickname, The Big Cheese. We've just started showing him again after he healed from cracked hooves and has been doing pretty decent in show pleasure classes. He's also one of the gentlest creatures in the world and you can let a four-year-old walk him around by his/herself or stick a two-year-old kid up on him while he's standing and barely be scared for both options, in fact my neices are those kids!
