I was just watching this documentary about a bridge in Scotland. Ever since the 50s dogs have been jumping off this bridge 40ft to their deaths. Approximately 50 dogs havve done this, the most recent one happening just under a year. It really freaked me out but it turns out that the dogs caught a scent of an animal underneath and appently didn't see what was under the bridge and just leapt to their deaths. So curiousity did kill the dog..... Anyway here's an article about it.
Can dogs really commit suicide?

Can dogs commit suicide? I really doubt any animal would do it. Their instinct for survival is too strong for it. Yet there are animals that die by the loss of their partner, when they then fall into depressions (mostly known from birds) - one could interpretate that as a "suicide", as they mostly stop eating and drinking then... the reason why I can't really see that as a suicide is because these animals don't do that intentionally - it happens out of the sheer sadness given by such a situation and belongs to their behavioral pattern.

Yeah, I agree with Kovu on this matter. I know a lot of people believe in haunted things and witchcraft, but I'm not really that superstitious. There's a few things I get freaked out about when it comes to superstition, but other than that, I think it's just a hoax. As you said, (Orlando) the dogs were probably smelling an unidentified animal under the bridge and tried to find it by jumping down. Please, just because it's around Halloween, doesn't mean you need to be spooked about everything that you happen to read, or see.

I agree with Kovu. I think that what happened to Little Ann in Where the Red Fern Grows is the closest possible thing to dogs commiting suicide.

*sighs* I am sick and tired of people thinking things that could only be solved by reading an animals mind! You don't know if animals can think about real suicide, so why don't you just go stare an animal who might be emotionaly and/or mentally damaged right in the eye until you can pick up anything coming from his eyes. I'm not saying any of you are right or wrong, you should just think about my post until it makes sense to you.

The stuff Kovu said could only be determined by reading an animal's mind, I'm sure he can't read an animal's mind, therefore he could not make sure of what he said.
