Okay, the "Lady and the Tramp vs. Scamp's Adventure" topic made me think: What is it about young characters falling in love at first sight?
Here's a couple of examples:
Scamp and Angel (LatT2:SA) - Their first encounter begins with a kiss on the cheek, then in a matter of hours, turns into a romantic spaghetti dinner at Tony's and a huge case of puppy love. Yeah, it's cute and adorable.
Tod and Vixey (TFatH) - Well, that's too short of a friendship-turned-into-love situation right there! (if you've seen the movie, you'll understand Tod's situation at this moment of the film (about 3/4ths of the way through), so I won't spoil it) I mean, moments after they met, she was already thinking about raising kits (baby foxes)! Whoa . . . O___O
-
Not only that, there are a lot of childhood friendships that turn into full-fledged romance (Simba and Nala (TLK) and Bambi and Faline (Bambi) are just a couple of examples), but sometimes these childhood friendships can become instant love if a few years pass since the two last saw each other. (Or not . . . in some cases. Sometimes it takes time before reacquainted friends turn into lovers . . . and sometimes, just the opposite.)
So what do you think? How do you feel about these films showing young love taking place in only a matter of a little over an hour (or less, in many cases)?

I love those films, it,s not only adorible but it's also very heart warming and it feels good inside, seeing others or animals fall in love is very well it helps to feel alot of things, so my opinion is they are awesome and love is always heart warming to see when it ends with two hearts beating as one^^

Well, I love those films too, and seeing two characters in love is nice and all, but to me, it's not that realistic. (Human-wise, it seems rare for two people to equally love each other at their first sight of each other, believing that it's fate for them to be lovers (yes, it does happen, but it's quite impossible); with animals? I'm not sure - who knows how long it takes to truly choose a mate and fall in love (for "real" animals, I mean)?) I suppose since these animals are personified (AKA given human qualities and personalities), there's a chance that it could be possible. It's only a film, right?
So you do have a point, Ecliptica! Thanks for your opinion!

I sometimes think of that as well. Though it is true that its waaayy overused and a bit cliche, I still think it's sometimes cute/adorable/beautiful/whathaveyou.
I have yet to see a movie where the characters don't fall in love immediately (well, I probably have seen some, I probably don't pay much attention to it).

Yeah, I don't really care for that in ANY movie really. Sure it's cute and all, but it gets old really fast and makes me yawn. Now with movies like Bambi, if he and Faline did not fall in love, they would defy the book, which clearly stated it was hormones and the "feeling of spring." With character such as Simba and Nala, it's pretty obvious they're gonna fall in love right down to the point where Simba says, "I can't marry her! She's my friend!" With characters such as Lady and Tramp, they didn't really fall in love at first sight, it was kind of one-sided, y'know? With characters such as Scamp and Angel...yeah, I don't think they planned those two out very well, because obviously Angel is older than Scamp, and I just did not think it was right! Of course I didn't think twice about it when I was a kid, but hey.

Cat: Well, you had a feeling that Bambi was going to fall in love anyway in the movie (especially if you've also read the book), with the whole "twitterpatted" talk and all (and Bambi's other friends falling head-over-heels in love within first contact of a female of their species).
As for the Simba/Nala thing, that was planned to happen, like you said (Yeah, how else was the Circle of Life to continue unless the two bethrothed friends-turned-lovers got together? Of course, no one foresaw the tragic events of the film, mind you.).
Now when it comes to dogs (like Lady and Tramp), you had a feeling that their opposite personalities would soon cause them to be closer than ever (Kind of like another dog couple we all know and love *cough* Balto and Jenna, anyone? *cough*). It seems I'm not the only one that thinks Angel's age (and maturity level could be added in this too) makes her and Scamp a badly-planned match-up. (Of course, Disney probably just thought that a street-wise Pomeranian pup-lookalike (I believe she's at least a year old, but since she is a Pomeranian, her small size is normal, making her look as if she is still a young pup, like Scamp) and a famous Mutt's "mini-me" with a rebellious spirit (and no skills whatsoever ) would make a cute pairing for young kids to enjoy.) Sure, she's cute and all, but it shouldn't all be about the adorable factor, should it? (Scamp's not cute. Sad to say it, but I don't think he's an attractive character, unlike his father. Tramp is cool . . . bah, why didn't Scamp inherit any of his father's coolness? *sigh*)
Sarafina Fanatic: True, Kiara and Kovu do count as "young love," but at least their relationship had some time to grow. They didn't really fall in love automatically - they first met unexpectedly as cubs, then were torn apart, due to their feuding prides. Little did they know of each other's destinies (Kiara being Heir to Pride Rock; Kovu being "Scar's heir" to kill Simba and take over the Pridelands), and when they reunited as "adolescents"(thanks to Zira's plan and Kovu's training), that was when they slowly began to fall for each other (and have some fun along the way).
To tell you the truth, I like "Simba's Pride" and their showing of the budding relationship between the two characters, who were both different, but it was their similar goal (of discovering that their two prides are the same - "we are one") that brought them closer together, but they never realized it until the climax.
(And to think many of the head people that worked on TLK2 also worked on "Scamp's Adventure." O___O Scary.)
KakashiMeeko: Thanks for that piece of information! I didn't know that, but that now makes sense with the movie (and *cough* certain scenes near the film's climax).
I suppose they do like to rush things, but can you blame them? They only have a short amount of time (usually about an hour and a half) to tell an entire movie's story, so they have no choice but to speed things up.
Writewolf, Arrowe: Yep, young love is soooo cliche. Especially having it being all cute and all. Why can't these love stories be natural for a change? (Especially the ones with animals. Not all of them are close to truth (The Lion King), but at least some do try to be true to nature (Fox and the Hound) and sometimes succeed beautifully (Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron). I suppose people that want to see animated animal films want more comedy in their romance, not some "true-to-life" film that puts Animal Planet to shame.) And sequels of famous films with obvious hintings of offspring help create these "craptacular" lovey-dovey situations, and they really seem unnecessary. I have nothing against seeing characters in love, but if they fall in love for the right reasons (or in the right situations) in the end (and if the events that lead up to them falling in love are well-thought up, at least). . . well, I think that's cute.
I think that the writers probably do think up their films well (I mean, they are professionals, right?), but perhaps they just want to have a basic story in which the two target "main" characters end up in love - either in friendly love, a crush ("puppy love"), or true love (which usually ends with them making babies and such, thus causing an almost repeat of the original in most sequels).
Wow! Thanks for responding to this! This conversation is getting interesting! Let's keep it up, okay? ^__^

I often wonder if Simba had a son would Simba's Pride be a Scamp's Adventure clone ?
and Kovu, sheesh, he was like *kill Simba* then Yee-hah! (chasing birds scene), ooh pretty stars! (they don't have cable in the outlands). then Upendi drugs, then BAM! reformed lion .. at least with the falling in love in can be explained by hormones or drugs but sheesh,
and what about all those princess films? with Snow White it was singing then at the end of the movie she marry's him because he just kissed her? at least the Dwarfs were more loyal.
and with Cindy and Sleeping Beauty it was dance then climax then marriage. real development there..
and then of course, Ariel gives up her Mermaidity (is that a word?) for a human that doesn't know her at all. I wish they kept the original ending of the movie
at least they got better with Beauty and the Beast and on.. but still

Starlioness wrote: I often wonder if Simba had a son would Simba's Pride be a Scamp's Adventure clone ? EEK. That would be so wrong. Would he want to become an Outlander or something? Although I think that Disney did the right thing by making his child a daughter with his young, playful personality, the other way would have probably made his "son" too much like him. I don't know why I think that, but the film was fine to me. Quote: and what about all those princess films? with Snow White it was singing then at the end of the movie she marry's him because he just kissed her? at least the Dwarfs were more loyal. and with Cindy and Sleeping Beauty it was dance then climax then marriage. real development there.. and then of course, Ariel gives up her Mermaidity (is that a word?) for a human that doesn't know her at all. Well, I understand how you feel about the "Princess" genre. Yes, they're all about beautiful maidens that (somehow) end up hooking up with a hunky (and sometimes not so handsome-looking) prince at first sight. Don't forget, these films are based on "fairy tales" - they're fantasy, clouding the minds of little girls by saying stuff like "When I find my prince, we will live happily ever after . . . forever!" or some crap like that. But also, thanks to the magic of Disney, these "princesses" are given positive qualities that cause girls to be true to who they are, princess or not (Don't forget, Cinderella started out as a normal girl, then a loyal servant to her step family after her father died, then Voila!, she becomes a Princess. . . . . You know, you have a point about the whole "dance then marry me" thing. That is way too fast for a relationship!)
However, there is one exception to the "LaFS" genre: Arranged Marriage (which I know has happened in a few "royal" films).
Sleeping Beauty - Aurora (Sleeping Beauty, Briar Rose, whatever you want to call her) and Phillip (the hunky prince) were betrothed when she was born (of course, Aurora never received the urgent memo, due to the fairies putting her in hiding as a baby so that she wouldn't die).
The Swan Princess - Derek (hunky prince) and Odette (the beautiful Swan Princess) were also arranged to be married at the princess's birth. (then their parents shoved this info down their throats until they gave into each other, because the young heirs didn't like the idea of getting together) (Note: This is not a Disney movie!)
The Lion King - Simba. Nala. Marriage. Enough said. (I still wonder why Kiara never had an arranged marriage - As a cub, Simba wanted to get rid of that "arranged marriage" rule, but when he grew up, he wanted to be just like his father . . . Did he really so it? No one knows.) And Simba's the royal here, not Nala (for a change, although we really know nothing about her father, who could have been any male out there . . . even Scar! O___O; ewwww.).
Yeah, arranged marriage is a bit of an exception in the whole "young love" genre . . . especially with Princess/royalty stories (because I do believe those were quite common in those times; even I have used this concept in one of my fanfictions).
BTW, I hate Disney's obsession with the "princesses" and all. Especially when not all of them are "princesses" to start with. IMO, a princess is born into the world of royalty OR married into royalty by hooking up with a prince. Not difficult to understand, right? Ridiculous. (All Disney is doing is brain-washing little girls with the princess crap again, just like the regular fairy tales and their "happily ever after" endings.)
(And for the love of animation, can someone tell Disney that Mulan and Esmeralda are NOT Princesses? One thing, Mulan got hooked up with a General, not a Prince! Second, Esmeralda is a gypsy who had a kid with a former Captain of the Guard! Does anyone else see something wrong with this? Sure, like the other Princesses, they reflect characteristics of a Disney Princess, but for the last time, they have no hint of royal blood anywhere! Gaaaaaah.)

whoops, I meant as in clone for S.Pride/ and Scamp's Adventure it's flipped.. dopey Princess falls for Rogueish Male, House-trained pup falls for Streetwise (Rogueish) female... anywho, I'm sure Kopa would've fallen for Vitani had that scenario been played in that scenario.
and speaking of Princessess, why the Frig don't they showcase princesses like Eilonwy from Black Cauldron or Kida from Atlantis? duh , they're Princesses they don't sing but still royalty.. maybe it's beacuse they're outfits aren't pretty enough or something ..
so why isn't Kiara in the Princess line? then again maybe that's a good thing
next thing you know they'll add Lilo to the pack
