LOW PAY!

This is my first "chapter" of many rants to come and they will mention the topic FIRST THING at the very beginning and if it looks like something you may not be interested in or sounds like something you REALLY DON'T want to hear anyone rant about, then by all means DON'T READ IT! You're welcome not to! Just because words are placed in front of your eyeballs, doesn't mean you HAVE to read it (its like a literature book, y'know?)

Okay, this is for people who actually know what I'm talking about. I mean, those who have REAL jobs. Not babysitting...not "i work two hours a YEAR" fundraising jobs you do for your local marching band.

I work in a restaurant (I will call it Ben Shozer's) and it is a place where we treat our customers with the utmost respect. If they want extra croutons in their salad, but forgot to tell the cashier, NO PROBLEM! We'll give you a fist-full free! Want to LOITER?! Go ahead! We won't kick you out!

I work for this "oasis" of a food place, and I make minimum wage, right? October 1st. Minimum wage increases to almost $7.00. McDonald's starting wage is $8.00. I repeat, their STARTING WAGE...is $8.00. That's almost STARTING OUT making ten bucks an hour!

Now...I work in one of the best places to eat where there is great service and a great environment and the food is always fresh and always good.

Why is it...that I'm (ME...a COLLEGE student! In a group of people needing more money than anyone just so they can get educated enought to get good jobs!) making LESS money working at a GOOD serviced restaurant... while people (most as educated as a block of wood) are making MORE money working at a BAD serviced restaurant?! (and trust me, the McD's around here are terrible. I know someone who actually found MJ on their Big Mac. AND when I asked for a #1 with only cheese... all I got, WAS A BUN AND A SLICE OF CHEESE!)

What's wrong with this picture?! Did the world not end too long ago and I just MISSED it or something? Am I not the only one having a problem with this?! If not, I may just be entitled to hang myself!

Well if your a collage student and your making that much, it's not the places fault, someone who is not in collage and works there will not make less or more, its what the job pays, not your fault.

But McDs well they are extreamly popular and make only god knows how much, the more they make, the more they can give, McDs have been around for how long? long time, there for getting a really high rep and there for more money, and yes your resturant may be way nicer and way cleaner and better, but if its not popular or anything like that, then less people come and there for less money, but people have been going to McDs for so many years and everyday there are so many people, there is not a day where McDs is low on cutomers.

But I do see what your saying and yeah I agree total Bullcrap, but by being a Collage student allows you the capibility and the access to more jobs then people without that, so its really yopur choise to what job you want even though there will be times where you cannot get the job you want.

Also I think but im not sure I think the wage people here get for McDs is like $7 something but I do not remember exactly, but if so the wages are diffrent in diffrent places, odd yes if true^^

But did you talk to your manager about that? maybe he or she can give you the answers your looking for.

Also im sorry iv I don't know much about many jobs, iv only had a few so im not familyer with all and how all the systems work, so if I said something incorrect im completely sorry.

No, you're just thinking too much into this LoL This restaurant is a chain restaurant just like McDonald's and on many occasions its busy six hours straight (mind you this place is not a franchise, so i doubt my manager could do anything about it) I'm basically wondering if anyone else (on this site) has this problem (seeing as MANY of them are my age and older) so we can all be one big happy ranting group of people! XD

But anyway, McDonald's used to ONLY give minimum wage for their beginning wage. Why they'd do something as to increase their starting wage, I dont know, but it's not going to help sales any.

And yes, DW, you're right. The majority of people who work for McDonalds are kids still in high school, or high school drop outs.

BUT! I guess if that's how America is going to function (leaving the poorly-educated with more money in a country where money equals power) I can't do anything about it as an individual

Heh heh. This is a good rant, Cat! Actually, it reminds me of "Waiting" (the movie).

I worked in a few restaurants when I was younger...chains, diners, and even a Burger King (oy...it was college...I wasn't thinking ). But my understanding of the wage system in restaurants is that, in the industry, it is felt by management that they can pay waiters and waitresses LESS than minimum wage because they make it up in tips. Waiters and waitresses actually make a few dollars less than the minimum wage (at least, they did when I was a waiter). And yet, they're also expected to share those tips with bus boys.

I never did like that. I always felt that tips should be above and beyond what you should make by law. And then, what of cheap tippers, or those who simply DON'T tip?

Actually, this board is made to talk about the site overall. Still, when I saw this, I was a bit amused, and also drawn in. It didn't do any harm to post THIS after all.

Well, I cannot argue that logic. Personally, I think Cat's setting us up for something BIGGER. (*ducks and covers*)

wait wait wait 8 bucks an hour at a MCDONALDS?? and they pay less at a good restaurant? talk about weird, MCdonalds is just dee dee dee... you might as well change to MCdonalds' and treat everyone you want, then at a Wall*Mart they pay very low salaries to the employees yet the wall*mart is one of the largest companies in the world, some of this people are so greedy about the restaurant, it isn't a "high quality" chain restaurant right? if it's not maybe their owners have some debt they have to pay or somehow need the money because they should know the salaries at MCdonalds so why would they pay less, they would just loose employees, well I don't know how it is there but wow why don't you switch jobs to a MCdonalds? you can even fall alseep and none will notice depends on manager acctually and how the're around.

I refuse to work in a disgusting environment. I'd like to KEEP NOT knowing what really goes on at McDonalds before I get my food XD

Uh, if that was completely accurate, then MCD's would have gotten their ***es busted like there's no tomorrow...

Well, I agree that with some foods, you're better off just eating them than seeing how it's made. For example, I saw something on TV about meatpacking industries, and I really wish I didn't see that. (Light-hearted people look away) There are places in those factories where they've got the cow's eyeballs and brains and crap like that hanging from moving hooks which are hanging from a chain-like conveyor belt. God, after seeing that, I only ate beef because I was really hungry.

Mcdonalds pays more then a good restaurant??!! omg, that's pathetic..xD my friends work there, 3 of them, 2 are 15 and one is 16>> they actually make alot of money, for teenagers that have nothing better to spend it on>> but they do make lots of money since the food is so expencive, there was this thing here, and you sell chocolates (-_-) and you get $1.00 per chocolates you sell, and you could sometimes make up to 20 dollars in an hour..that's kinda pathetic>>
