Oh, man... I know the entire story of that ship! I used to be completely obssessed with shipwrecks, and I had an entire book about them. The Britannic was one of them. Here's the story:
The Britannic was originally called the Gigantic, and was intended to be a ship much the same as the Titanic. Until World War II came around, that is. Then, it's name was changed to the Britannic, and it was given white and green markings, with light-up red crosses on the sides, and painted red crosses on the hull above the water line. The Britannic became a hospital ship for the allies, if you didn't already guess. On what would be its last voyage, it was sailing through the strait between the island of Sicily and the point of the Itallian peninsula nearest to the island, and about there is where either it struck a water mine, or was hit by a torpedo. The Britannic sank in the Mediterranean sea, but most of the patients, doctors, and nurses were saved by some British warships that were in the same area and responded to it's SOS call.
That's all I can think of the story, right now.
