I've found a lot, that when people post fics, there could be over 130 VIEWS, but only around 3 replies. (It's happened to me and Purdyness I know, and a lot of others, especially new fic writers) People work hard to finish these fics, and when they do they feel like they've accomplished something. I know how it feels to work for a long time on something and finally finish it, post it on the site, all excited about people's reaction to it, and then have many many viewers but no hardly any replies! People need feedback. I'm guilty of it too, many times I admit. I'm going to start trying to leave comments on the fics I read, as I hope you do. Now I'm NOT saying that people should read all the new fics and stuff, I'm just saying that it would be VERY nice to the authors, if you DID read it, to leave your thoughts on it! I'm not saying you SHOULD read mine or you SHOULD read Purdy's, I'm asking that if you DO, (or ANY other fanfics, most definately not just mine and hers, I just used that as an example) to please leave your comments on it. Wether good or bad, at least they know what you think. If you've posted fics on here and had many viewers and no replies, you know where I"m coming from. We need so show courtesy to the authors and give our thoughts on their hard work. It helps them continue. If they feel they are not being appreciated at all, then they might stop writing alltogether, maybe witholding something wonderful that they could have done in the future. So please, if you read a fanfic, please leave a reply. I know you're thinking SOMETHING about it. Again this is not a promotional for me or for Purdy, but simply a request to all people to leave feedback on ALL fics they read. I will try harder myself. thank you.

I think they should but it's there choice, really I don't mind if they don't comment on my work but it makes the writer know if he's doing good so they should but it's there choice to.

I think you just posted this because you are trying to get more people to pay attention to Purdy, and start a flamming war.
It really is their OWN choice if they want to post something. So what if they dont? See, you dont realize something...
I do this often. I will provide a link to the place, or just browse in on the topic AGAIN after looking at it. Just like yesterday-- I provided Bob5 with the link to Purdy's fic so he could read it because he couldnt find it. ;D
And I did go back to it a few times, just to look it over. I do that to many topics-- expecially when in my Roleplay. ;D
So, really. Come on. I think this topic may start a war, and we REALLY dont need one. ;D

I think posting gives the writes feedback on wheather they should write another fanfic. And it helps the writes improve to make better fanfics the next time around. Maya, Teal clearly said that this topic is not for me. I agree that people need to post more.

No I'm not saying there should be a rule I'm just stating that it would be a lot better if people left feedback on what they read. again, THIS IS NOT A PROMOTIONAL TOPIC FOR MINE OR PURDY'S FICS. I PROMISE it isn't. but I'm sure other people feel the same way we do. it's discouraging to see that people look at your story and you have no idea what they think!

Yes, comments are nice. But one shouldn't complain about it. It takes a while to get recognition and therefore get more comments. It also helps if you write about something people would actually want to read. If you notice that your fics are being read but not commented on, then maybe people think it's boring. And the REALLY courteous ones would keep their mouths shut if they didn't like something.
I've never read any of your fics, but try going back to see if you yourself can pick stuff out that needs to be changed so that more people will read. Ask yourself if your fics are too long. Ask yourself if your fics use good grammer. Ask yourself if your fic is too hard to read (meaning small font, or no indents or paragraphs or too long paragraphs). Start thinking like someone else and see if your fic is too boring. Whichever. It doesn't matter.
But complaining about getting few comments is stupid and it's not going to get you more. People aren't going to comment just because you tell them to read something, nor are people going to read something that's out there for their own OPTIONS of reading. If they had to comment on everything they read, than that would just defeat the purpose of free will now wouldn't it?

I agree with the majority of what you've said, Cat, including the purpose of free will, good grammer, and the near uselessness of 'complaining' about getting few comments.
However, I should hope that the length of a fanfic would not deter potential readers.
In addition, I think that the writer should first consider what he/she wants to write about. If it interests him/her, he/she should write it. He/she should write with a mind toward the younger readers, but comments should not be the main concern.
To quote my English teacher:
"If you write to impress, you will always fail, but if you write to express, you will always suceed."
Teal, I understand completely what you are saying, and let me assure you that you and Purdy are not alone. I started out with one fic and no comments for months. I still have fics that few people review. But I don't let it get me down.
Keep writing, and they will come.

COME ON you guys don't get what I'm saying! I'M NOT COMPLAINING! PLEASE understand that. I told you THREE TIMES that THIS IS NOT A PROMOTIONAL FOR ME OR ANYBODY ELSE IN PARTICULAR! PLEASE stop putting words in my mouth I'm simply stating that it's common courtesy to post a reply when you read something! I'm not DEMANDING you to do anything!! Please stop thinking that because OBVIOUSLY you guys didn't listen to me when I said that I'm not saying there should be a rule I just thought that people would want to be nice to others and post replies I'M NOT DEMANDING ANYTHING. Actually READ what I'm saying and not just skim over it okay????

Flip a biscuit about it, Teal LoL Obviously you're letting people on that you ARE complaining by even making a topic about this.

I didn't start it Suka, she's the one who posted on here. I didn't ask her to. and she obviously doesn't WANT me to have good intentions with this topic. As hard as it is I'm gonna ignore her.

Well, maybe you had good intentions, but this seems more like a topic for flamming, yo. ^^;; Thats all that seems to be doing. And this topic does seem like a complaint & it does seem like promo for you/purdy and maybe a few others.
But that is what I seem to see. If I was a mod, I might lock this before a war starts. But I am not a mod, and dont know all that much... so hmm *shrugs*

Naturally, I get blamed. This topic may as well be locked. But thank you Maya, thats precisely where I was getting at, I wasn't "flaming" anyone.
But since I'm encouraged:
Quote: she's the one who posted on here. I didn't ask her to.
Kinda contradicting to your topic, there, isn't it, chum?
And no. I didnt start anything either.
