WHAT I'M WORKING ON:
Not a Dog, Not a Wolf: This is an alternate WQ I'm working on. The main focus is Balto and Jenna's youngest daughter Arai, who is known to the humans as Aleu. (Unlike her siblings, the name her parents gave her stuck because she finds that Arai, which means wild in Japanese, suits her better.) Arai runs on a sled racing team along with her sister Lena and her father's best friend, an old piebald husky named Ben. During a race, Ben's last before he finally retires, he is determined to win that race, and becomes aggressive towards anyone who tries to get him to slow down. Eventually, half a mile from the finish line, Ben pushes himself over the limit, and his heart bursts, killing him instantly.
Arai finds Ben's death hard to handle at first, but the situation worsens when Ben's replacement arrives, a stuck-up white husky named Kennon who appears to have a deep hatred, but at the same time, desire for Arai. Over the next few weeks, Kennon begins to abuse Arai, and eventually, he goes too far, and she cracks, wasting no time in killing the dog while everyone is sleeping.
Arai knows that she can never return to the sled team or see her family again after what she did, and adapts to life as a wolf. She is accepted into a pack of wolves, learning quickly, and becoming the pack's beta. But Arai's new life is interrupted by several sudden deaths among some of the highest pack members, the alpha pair: Kaen and Suta being the first to be found dead. The cause of the killings is revealed to be by a group of wolf-hunting dogs led by a very familiar black husky.
A war is held between the wolf pack and the group of dogs known as "The Army", and in the midst of the battle, shocking discoveries are made, allies are found, and traitors are revealed.
This is my major project right now, and it will be a rather long story, told in Arai's point of view.
The Wolves Within: A story centered on Lena and a wolfdog friend of hers named Storm, who was Arai's bodyguard on Lena's request, and stayed with the team at all times to try and make sure that Kennon didn't abuse Arai anymore.
The story begins right after Arai kills Kennon and leaves to become a wolf. Lena, who was very protective of her younger sister, leaves the camp as well, because if only Arai was gone, everyone would know it was her who killed Kennon. Storm, who had become very close to Lena, decides to come with her. After several months on their own, they come across a pack of wild dogs that is preparing to assist a nearby wolf pack in their battle against a group of dogs called "The Army".
After Storm proves himself to the leader's advisor, he and Lena are allowed to join the pack and aid them in their mission. When important members of the wolf pack they're helping are revealed, helping them in the final battle becomes more crucial than ever, especially to Lena and Storm.
Warning: As these two fanfictions are connected, they may spoil each other, so it's up to you to decide which one you want to read first, although when they're done, I would suggest reading "Not a Dog, Not a Wolf" first.
WHAT'S TO COME:
A Twisted Legacy: An alternate Balto based slightly more on the true story, and featuring Togo
Family Sticks Together: Starts off as a story of the pups' youth, but then changes to a series of short stories that tells of how the six siblings have helped and hurt each other as they got older. Also features some background info on Ben
Northern Lights: Focuses on Balto and Jenna's relationship between Balto and "Not a Dog, Not a Wolf"
Destined: After The Army is defeated and Arai is made alpha of the pack, she has a daughter named Denali along with two sons, Ataneq and Desna. Denali lacks the firery spirit of her parents and brothers, and is considerably smaller and weaker than the others. In the pack, weakness is not tolerated, and Arai attempts to keep her daughter's life out of danger by lying to the pack and telling them that Denali wandered away from the den and was killed. She manages to keep her hidden for a short amount of time, but suspicions arise when Denali was supposedly sighted by the pack's omega. Arai realizes that the only way Denali can ever be safe is if she is sent away from the pack. Arai instructs Lena, her beta now, to sneak away from the pack with Denali and get her to Nome to be raised by her aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
When Lena returns to Nome with Denali, she realizes how much has changed since she left. Many peaceful lives are now in ruins, and it will take a lot to set things right.
