Roz,
I invite you to stop by the True Story folder. There is much about the real Balto, and about Togo. It's a great place to learn what really happened, and who REALLY was there.
Togo was the real canine hero of the Serum Run (though he was far from the only dog who contributed). Balto (the real Balto) was actually more of a bit player, though he WAS a lead dog, and DID do his part. It was his team which arrived in Nome, and caught the attention of the press...thus, he got the fame. Togo led his team nearly 300 total miles in the run...on a round-trip. Balto ran his team only 53 miles.
Togo was also, previously, a racing legend, and a hard worker.
