Billions of questions can break off of the word universe in all directions, kind of like a tree, stretching as far as the universe itself. But do those questions need to be answered? I don't think so, we'll never answer all those questions because more questions will break off of the solving of a question, and that question won't be solved until those questions will be solved, and those questions will need questions to answer those questions. So with the universe there are infinate questions, so we should just leave them alone and put most of the money towards something like building homes for the poor and buying land for wildlife preservation.
Besides all we need to know is what is going on in our solar system, beyond it, it doesn't matter. We need to our study solar system so if there is an asteroid or something we can prepare for it. But it's not like a star will come flying from the depths of space and sit right next to the sun, so why study the depths of space, or even the origins of the universe, because there are too many questions to answer, and we'd never answer those questions?
Life will probably be gone by the time the Milky Way and some other galaxy will collide, so does it matter? No, all we need to know is what's going on in our solar system and when.

I just had to type this down. I just read about Cosmology and I was disgusted and all these words came out and are what you read in the paragraphs above.

It is human nature to want to know more about where we live. It helps us understand who we are, where we came from, and where we are going. I like science, it just makes this world so much more enjoyable, survivable and interesting. a world without science is a world without discovery.

If we wouldn't try to answer exactly those questions, we wouldn't even know that animals can be endangered. We'd simply see them as a never ending resource, while it in fact isn't true.

By that we'd eventually miss an important point, which could save our lives.

The study of the galaxy, and even what lies beyond, has great merit. Just as the study of the depths of the oceans does. If for no other reason, than that, someday, the ocean depths, or the reaches of outer space (beyond the extent of our own solar system) may be a place of refuge from some great natural (or even man-made) calamity. Preservation of the species, after all, is a natural tendency in humanity.

Indeed, by looking to outer space, and searching for planets which show signs of liquid water (and, thus, a breathable atmosphere) circling a stable star, we alleviate the need for biodomes and other life-sustaining set-ups, which would be not only confining, but expensive to construct and maintain.
