I say Husky.
Siberian husky.
Alaskan malamutes cannot have blue eyes.
And huskies are faster, and Steele is top dog, right?
"For show:
Height--Dogs, 21 to 23½ inches at the withers. Bitches, 20 to 22 inches at the withers. Weight--Dogs, 45 to 60 pounds. Bitches, 35 to 50 pounds. Weight is in proportion to height. The measurements mentioned above represent the extreme height and weight limits with no preference given to either extreme. Any appearance of excessive bone or weight should be penalized. In profile, the length of the body from the point of the shoulder to the rear point of the croup is slightly longer than the height of the body from the ground to the top of the withers.
Disqualification--Dogs over 23½ inches and bitches over 22 inches. "
Steele is most likely a oversized husky. I have a oversized rottweiler(who is almost taller than the three year old around here.) It doesn't matter what breed he is, but I would have to say husky.

That is definitely not true. Alaskan Malamutes most definitely can have blue eyes. All spitz-type dogs can. It's just that the breed standard (used by show and conformation people, and breeders) says that blue eyes are not a desirable trait. Here is a link to the AKC (American Kennel Club) page for verification (which itself even shows that blue eyes are POSSIBLE): http://www.akc.org/breeds/alaskan_malamute/index.cfm. I have myself seen Alaskan Malamutes with blue eyes.
It is a common misconception, created by those who too easily believe the hype surrounding show and conformation standards.
I do believe that Steele is an Alaskan Malamute (given his size even over other huskies in the movie). Still, neither Universal nor Amblimation ever spelled it out...so, for ALL of us, it is just left up to our imaginations.

I thought Huskies were larger than Malamutes?
Well, either way, I believe he's a Husky. Some people say he's a Malamute in a 'matter-of-fact' way.. that's what made me ask this.

Oh no. Huskies are a few inches shorter, generally, than Malamutes.

I mean theres been all this fuss about what breed he is.
Since he has the traits of both breeds i say he's a husky/malamute mix, i mean it is possible since nobody actually knows steele's background.

I think Steele is a huksy. At least he is in my fanfics with him. But unless Universal releases info on that kind of stuff, we'll never know. ><

Ok. This is what bugs me so much. People act like they know everything about a breed of dog saying that it's impossible for a certin breed to have a certin eye color. Alaskan Malamutes can have blue eyes. It's this wonderful little thing called a mutation. I knew someone who had one and they Malamute had the most beautiful eyes and they were BLUE. The dog was 100% Malamute, too. She had registration papers and everything that I got to see.

I agree with you completely. And yeah, I don't like it when people think they know everything about a certain breed of dog.. I knew someone like that in a higher year at school.. they insisted that Archie could not possibly be part Border Collie because he didn't have a white tip on his tail!

Okay, well sorry for listening to dog "experts" on here. And plus, I know alot about dogs.. more than most people around here.
Plus, after looking at many alaskan malamutes, they look nothing like Steele.
EDIT: Sorry about rolling my eyes or whatever, or if I sounded mean or offended someone. I didn't mean too.

Well, dude, no one's picking on you, but facts are facts. And any self-professed "dog expert" who told you that Alaskan Malamutes don't (or can't) have blue eyes is simply wrong. Additionally, if you look at any breeder page (for Malamutes), you will find many which have markings just like Steele.
I am skeptical of any kid or teen who would profess to be an "expert" on anything...they just don't have sufficient life experience. I am sorry if that offends some of you, but my intent is not to offend or start a flame war. Hell, I also thought I was pretty expert on some things when I was a teenager. And then I grew up, and realized how little I really knew then.
An actual well-rounded dog expert would know full-well about Malamutes. I am hardly one, and have never owned one, and yet I know that Malamutes CAN have blue eyes.
