I'm sure you guys are all aware of how my mother does not approve of this site, thinking that it is too immature for me, a guy about to be 16, to be on. Well, she basically just told me that she's going to be watching everything I do on the internet and going to punish me whenever she sees that I was on this site, or something to that effect. If it seems like I have suddenly stopped posting on this site, then that's my parents' tyrannical control over my life that I can do little about. I'm currently thinking about what to say about this to convince her that what she is doing is wrong, and if that doesn't work, then God save me.

I thank you all for understanding.

-Swords of the Wolves

I'm sorry to hear that Swords.
I can't think of much right now, but I think you should stand up for yourself as much as you possibly can. You have friends here, right? Tell them that they can't take away your friends.
Maybe you could also mention that there are A LOT of teens on this site, and that you're not the only one.

Sorry to hear that.....Ugh! I know how you feel though. I can't imagine what I would have done without this place. Try telling your mom that you're not the only 16 year old on here. Actually there are many people above that age....

I'm very sorry about this, Sword, and I sympathize with you totally (and from an ADULT perspective!). You're parents are being completely unreasonable. You're a good person, and a positive contributor to this site, and any period in which you are away will be a loss to it.

Stay the course, buddy. And we'll be waiting for you.

Well, thanks everyone. I'm going to plead my case to my parents on why they shouldn't bother about this place. I hope they will take it seriously. It should be a good thing to keep alive at least one part of your not grown-up self. I mean, otherwise, you'd be pretty dead inside, just hoping for a truck to come by and put you out of your misery. My parents should at least understand that. If not, then Christ save me.

Yeah, really. I mean, I'm 14, and my parents know I go on here a lot, and they don't have a problem with it. I can understand a parent not wanting their kids to be into certain things, but punishing them for hanging on to something from childhood? That's sad. They should be glad that you're using the internet for something that's kid-friendly (as opposed to...well, you know what kind of stuff there is out there).

Parents have that infuriating capacity for irony which dictates the following:

1. When their kids become teenagers, they expect them to "grow up and take responsibility"

2. They yet hate to think of their teens as developing adults, so they still treat them like kids (though, to be fair, a percentage of teenagers DESERVE to be treated as bratty kids!)

3. They still think that their teens are up to no good when on the internet (and, again...to be fair, a percentage very well MAY be), and may also be facing possible dangers or corruptive influences (which seems to be especially true of religiously fundamentalist or evangelistic parents, regardless of their religion).

Sometimes, they see themselves reflected in their kids...especially those traits in their kids which mirror things THEY did as kids which now embarrass them. And so they think they have to break them of it. And also set them on a better path than THEY had. It's stupid, really.

Then again, SOME parents are just plain facist! And totally unreasonable for no good purpose, other than to lord over their kids! (I still maintain that some people shouldn't breed...and have no business being parents... )

That's just - well - I don't even have a word for it... it's simply unbelievable that there are parents with such a practice.

Seriously, I'm 24, I didn't ever even see the Balto Movies - and have a very rational / scientific mind. Should that stop me from posting here? Actually I find this place very interesting, specially because of the fact most members are below the 18th year.

Doesn't your mother see that you could contribute a lot to the knowledge of younger people? One could think that she hates kids...
