I don't mind spiders either, really. I give them a respectful distance, and they don't bother me. In fact, as an American Civil War living historian, sleeping out on the ground at encampments (with no tent, or only rarely with a tent), I probably have the occasional "guest" creeping over me at night on its way somewhere else. Heh heh...
OOOoooooOOOooooOooh! Freaky!
And I've never once been bitten by a spider (finds some wood to knock on...*KNOCK KNOCK*

).
Though, when I was a kid, like most boys, my friends and I would take harvester spiders ("Daddy Long Legs") and play with them, and scare the girls with them. Heh heh. They are not true spiders (though they are arachnids), and while they are very poisonous, their fangs cannot pierce human skin. They're funny little things...with small round bodies and exceptionally-long legs.
Of course, I agree with Zorro with regard to wasps and other winged, stinging insects. I have a healthy fear of wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, mud daubers, cicada killers (BIG suckers!), cricket killers (which are black with a metallic bluish-purple sheen) etc. I was stung by a wasp (a few times by the same little bugger) on the leg back when I was ten years old. I had climbed into my parents' car, and didn't realize that I had sat on the wasp...she stung me on the back of my leg, and it was exquisitely painful! That incident set off a long fear of ALL stinging insects...including all manner of bees. (It took me a long while to break myself of the habit, as I got into my teenaged and college years, of double-checking the car seat, as I sat down to drive, before starting the car.

)
However, as I got older, I learned that bees aren't so bad and, in fact, rather harmless unless provoked (Africanized honey bees aside...which are never seen in my area anyway, thank GOD!). Male carpenter bees can be a real source of humor...they cannot sting. However, in the spring, they hover and flit around the area, looking for the females to mate with, and other males to chase off. They look like bumble bees (fat bodies)...and will stand their ground and hover while you approach...darting away if you get too close. However, they can bite, so I don't press them.
And honey bees are pretty cool. And quite mellow.
However, I still hate and give a very wide berth to wasps, hornets, etc.
