Post subject: Battle Of The Seventh Generation Gaming Systems!
PostPosted: Mon Sep 11, 2006 2:08 am

With all the media hype surrounding the release of the seventh generation of gaming systems, the only thing certain is that it is tearing apart the gaming community. Everyone has their opinin, and most people are throwing numbers into the conversation without actually knowing what they mean for the systems they are running on.

Me, admitting to being one of those people, went and did some extensive research and ultimtely came to a conclusion. All of the new platforms are so varied in capabilites and strengths that it is next to impossible to dub one as being the best. Seeing as Playstaion 3 and Nintendo Wii aren't even released yet makes it even more difficult. What you can do however, is pit all three in a few mini battles. There are definite winners when you break it all down into smaller components.

The results of my findings and the winners of the mini battles are far too lenthy to post here, but I posted it all to my website:

http://www.getoff-the-beaten-path.com/id39.html

Here I have posted the results of my findings and the winners of the mini battles. I have also deciphered what some of the big numbers mean.

Microsoft all the way. Id definatly say the 360 is gonna win because do to recent 'events' Sony hasent been doing that well with their popularity plus their lead game for the PS3 has just been sold off to the 360 aswell....and for the Nintendo Wii, im sure it will good its just the fact that it dosent have the next-gen graphics like the other consoles do and thats what alot of people ar looking for.....so yeah i think Microsoft will win the console war

Well doing all this research really did open my eyes a lot. I am a total multimedia junkie, so I know that I would love having the XBox just for the multimedia capabilities alone. However I do have a computer for downloading *cough* not so *cough* legal multimedia. And we just bought the computer for multimedia purposes.

But the controllers on the Wii are so cool! And I absolutely suck at having to press multiple buttons simultaneously.

But I did hear later that the Playstation 3 is supposed to be region-free. I have not checked for confirmation on that, but if it's true, that means Japanese import season is open for business.

The only video games I am good at are Karaoke Revolution and Katamari Damasy. At first, they were only coming out for Playstation 2, but I'm not sure about now.

Either way, it is much easier to justify spending $250 on a Wii than it will be to justify $600 for a PS3. Me thinks I will try to get a Wii for the family for Christmas. I will be the s**t in their eyes. Then I will start putting money away for a PS3 or XBox 360, whatever I end up deciding to get.

Battle I am fighting: Japanese imports vs multimedia

Ps3 is region free...Katamari Damacy...god that was the most bizarre and fun game ever. Thing that sucks if your in europe you cannot import a Ps3..since the Televisions are calibrated differently.

Yeah. That would totally suck. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who plays Katamari Damasy. The more I think about it, the more Japanese imports appeal to me.

I'm going to side with the 360 on this, mainly because with all of the functions of the PS3, it can hardly be classified as a "gaming console" and the Blu Ray discs are going to be far too expensive, as will be the system. Sony will end up losing money because people will not spend that much, so they will have to lower the price or be out millions of dollars.

And let us not forget the fact that Nintendo was the start of gaming. Just acknowlege that, because we know Nintendo is bound to fall through the ranks, like Gamecube did. But I will always respect Nintendo for what it had begun.

Actually The Atari 2600 came before The Nentendo.
I like The Kingdom Hearts games so I'll get a PS3, because that's where any sequels in that franchies will go.

But Atari also almost kileed the industry with the 7800, the video game industry was dying and people weren't playing games...then Nintendo showed up and rekindeled everyones love of games.
