I think they do: As you said, they have all their own personality...

(Who knows what's going on in an animal head? Maybe they think that we don't have souls ;) )

sets us apart... i think the origin of that is that many of the people did not like to be compared with the "evil" animals...

I think they have sould as we do, IF we have souls =P

Personally I prefer to ask: do humans have souls? ;)

It's matter of definition. If we believe in the spiritual value of a soul, hence a soul that can reincarnate or finds its place in "heaven", then the answer is no. If we define it as our personality, like most of you already mentioned here, then we all do. Our personality is something we build ourselves during lifetime - it's the product of our thinking, writing, speaking and acting in a social community. A personality is something that never exists twice, and "survives" in other people as the memories of another person, but can't be copied.

Animals definately have a personality, hence - if I follow my own definition - they have a soul. But animals don't believe in supernatural powers - they stay rational for the matter of their life, have therefore no spiritual values, and so they can't have what we define as a soul in religions.

However... I guess I don't need to explain you the scientific view on the possibility of existence of spiritual souls or ghosts, nor how I personally deny religious theory.

I have almost no doubt that animals have souls. I mean, they display emotions, like pain, happiness, saddness, etc. I don't see any reason to believe that they don't.

I'm an avid animal lover. I adore animals more then people (I actually hate people^^)

But, I truley believe that animals don't have souls like people do.

Yes, they show emotion like sadness, happiness and pain. And yes, some animals can be very intelligent. But, unlike people, animals are not concious of what's going on in the world around them.

You can teach a monkey to read a newspaper, but you can't teach it to feel sorrow for the world. An animal will fight to protect itself and it's young, and if one of it's young die, the animal will mourn for a period of time...But not like a human mother mourning the loss of her child.

Also, I know 99% of the people here don't believe in G-D, but you are capable of believing....animals are not.

*please don't flame me. just speaking my mind*

What you call "soul" here are not more than emotions... a soul is a kind of "ghost". Animals DO mourn if an other animal dies they like. For example elephants or budgies: Bugies can die because of loneliness, if their "friend" dies. Elephants do also mourn about their dead friends... and dolphins, too.

They do not care whats going on because I think they just have an other philosophy of life. And they ARE councious about whats goin on around them just because they would be faster dead than... i dunno...

No, I do NOT want to flame you ;)

We are, by definition, animals. If we are capable of having a "soul" then there is no reason for a different type of animal to not have a soul.

Bible speaking God says that he loves every living thing and if you dont have a soal you cant really go to heaven. But what some people believe is that animals dont have soals. feelings, personaletys ect.
I personaly believe that animals are no differant from humans(except looks lol) We are animals and we have soals so why wouldn't the other animals on this planet?

There is a book that talks about this. I think it's called something like "Will I see them again?" or something like that. It is about whether the pets you have had will be with you in heaven when you go there, (To which the book says yes) and supports it with quotes from such religious figures like Martin Luther.
