As for me, I didn't know anything about the serum run until watching part of Balto on Sky Movies a long time ago. Then I read an article about Balto's statue in Central Park in one of my many dog books. But, I the full story I read on Acanis' Fluke's Tribute to Balto before watching it on the Balto DVD.
Thanks Fluke!

Actually, in a way, I'm ashamed to admit this, but I saw the Balto cartoon (Balto 1) before I really ever knew much about the real history. LOL. It's bad for someone into history to admit, but there it is. However, when a Hollywood movie is based on, or inspired by, actual events, I always then go and research the actual history behind it. Of course, in the case of the following movies, I already had an abiding interest in the history they were based on:
Titanic
Brittanic
Gettysburg
Gods & Generals
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Pearl Harbor (a LOUSY movie)
Saving Private Ryan
The Longest Day
The Bunker
The Reagans
Rough Riders
Kingdom of Heaven
Revolution
The Patriot
Benedict Arnold
The Crossing
Blackbeard (the 2006 docu-drama)

I saw the movie first and I never knew it was a true story.
Then one day in 2004 I found this picture
I found out Balto was really real!

I first saw the movie when it came out when I was only 5 years old. Up until SEVERAL years later, I thought that Everything in the movie was true (hey, I was young). Then I went on the internet and looked him up to see what history had to say, and found out a lot of things that the movie never talked about. The fact that it was a relay, that Steele and Jenna weren't real, all that stuff. I was actually heartbroken for a while after I found out he wasn't part wolf.
Finding out that I had been wrong all those years was really wierd, but as I got older, the real-life history started to become so interesting to me, and now I just can't get enough of it. And the real-life Balto turned out to be insanely adorable!

I saw the movie first and then became interested in the true story. The main reason I am here to be honest is for the cartoon, as I adore it. Though I love the true story too so spend a lot of attention there.
It is unfortunate that the film is more popular than the actual story, but look on the bright side here, at least it does bring people into the intrest of the Serum Run, it certinally did that for me!

Yeah, I totally agree! And if it weren't for that movie, Balto would end with the title of "forgotten hero" as well But thankfully that's not the case!

When I first saw the movie I had no clue the story was real. Never payed attention to "Based on a true story" at the end. Then in first or second grade we watched to movie and talked about the true story. Guess thats when I found out it was real. then a few years later I learned more about the Serum Run and saw pictures. ^^
