Compared to the other Balto movies its the best of the best. I'll give example's of why-->
Great animation:
Fur moves, whole body moves when running, snow eather falls, flys, or moves in some way
Better voice actors/actresses: voice's fit the characters and are beribal to listen to.
Great and meaningful characters:
All the characters in Balto 1 played an importan role in the movie and none or very few of them dissappeared.
Awsome sound effecs and songs:
From what I remember Balto 1 had awsome sound effects and it wasnt a sing along. Sing alongs are pretty bad in movies that dont relate to barnie or The Land Before Time.
Proportion:, No extreamly long arched necks, no gigantic paws ect. ect. ect.
The time and effort that they put into Balto 1 made the movie seem alive. While Balto 2 and 3 were a discrace-->
Horribal animation: Only the legs moved when running, the snow and grass/trees never moved. Also way to many bloobers alson with the mixing of 3D and 2D
Bad voice acting:
The sequals to B1 had very bad voice acting. There where times when the mouth wouldnt match and the voices didnt really match how the characters looked. It was like putting Arnald Shwartanager's voice on Bami!
Useless characters:
B2 and 3 had usless characters like stella and Niju. They needed to keep the old one's or at least use better one's. Aslo for no resone the characters that you dont want to leave were always dropped out.
The sound effects and songs sucked:
Granted that there were hardly any sound effects... But the songs B2 was a gold mine of sing along songs! B3 wasnt that bad but I've seem better.
Proportion:
Dont even get me started on the proportion of the sequals, the paws were to big and bloated i'm suprized that they could lift them with those tooth pick like legs for one.
So I wouldn't say Balto 1 was the best of the best, I've seen better but compared to the sequals it beat them by a long shot.

Well, I must say it is a VERY good movie, the art and animation is beautifully done, and the plot doesn't move too slow. 100 times better than it's sequels. But I must say that it is not the best movie ever, nor will it ever be a classic. It was good, yes, but I think All Dogs Go To Heaven was better than Balto.
Why? Because the character Charlie was a very unique character, and his type of character is very rarely used in kids movies, which is both a curse and a blessing. Charlie started out as a very selfish and evil character, until the little girl Ann Marie changed his entire outlook on life and turned him into a very kind person, which I think is awesome for kids to see, that its possible for bad to turn into good.
I don't care if the movie showed the dogs drinking, it just showed that much more as to why it's bad to drink. In the sequel, it obviously showed that after watching ADGTH1 more kids were getting into alcoholism (which was totally NOT the parents' fault ) the dogs were drinking...root beer...Wow (i didn't much like it's sequel either, but Ill give them some credit for the intentions of the antagonist and the keeping of the original style)
So in conclusion, I think Balto1 is a very good movie, but there are MANY other movies (of its genre) that are better.
And wolfhound, that's basically what I've been saying this whole time Ive been on this site

I gotta say Best. =D I liked it better than ANY animated movie.. ever. What movie has no songs/sing alongs, beautiful background music(White wolf part gave me chills), and so much more. Balto runs just like a wolf/dog, and when they move/walk.. you can see their pawprints/foot prints in the snow.. And at the begaining where it showed Jenna and her friends, like reallife, you can hear the people talking.. I heared a kid in the background say "Dad, I am full." .. And all that stuff. =D
Also, it was based on a true story, which made it even more great. I have not found a movie better than Balto. Wonderful animation, and great acting. All the dogs didn't have big paws like Balto, and since they weren't half wolf .. unlike in B2 and B3. All the huskies had big paws same size as Balto. But anyways, in Balto 1, you know.. Balto was the only one with those big wolf sized paws, and that body, and all.
This movie is ten times better than Lion king, Bambi, and all those other movies. Jenna was also great, and when you first see her, you would think she would be some girly-girl.. But when you get to know her, she's not even close to being that. Also, Balto isn't JUST for kids. =/ There is many parts that kids wouldn't really understand.. But let's not get into that.
I just thought this movie was great. I haven't seen an animated movie just as great. =P .. Yeah, I am a big fan of this animated movie. Help? I just love it ... =P Other animated movies are alright. I like Lady and the tramp and all, but I would better not go off topic.
But yeah, Balto fan. =) Okay, that's not enough typing for me.. I am bored, so I wanted to type alot about how I feel about the wonderful Balto.

That reminds me. Not to get off subject, but did you know the girl who did the voice of Ann-Marie (Judith Barsi), was shot and killed by her own father when she was 10?

I voted Best of the Best, of Balto movies anyway.
All together Balto 1 was so much better than it's sequels, the characters seemed to look right, the body movements and behaviour were far more acurate in B1.
The characters themselves were fun to watch and likeable, even Steele as the bad guy, Niju was pathetic and boring whereas Steele was interesting and a good bad guy (pardon the oxymoron) and in B3 the bad guy was a plane?? the dogs hated the plane not the pilot and it was laughable.
The story was interesting and well written, B2 and B3 just were'nt thought out as much and were'nt half as good.
The animation was absolutely terrible in B2 and not great in B3 but in B1 it was beautiful, I know people are going to say that they were different animators and it could'nt have been easy to do and animation is hard but that is no excuse for just how bad the animation in BOTH the sequels was, the characters looked awful and even Balto was more boxy in the sequels and none of them seemed to move as smoothly as the chars in B1 did and the bakgrounds were'nt as good in the sequels either, the 3D water against the 2D background is the worst mistake they could've made and the sheer amount of bloopers in B2 was horrific, a well made movie does'nt have half as many bloopers and even the ones there are are'nt as visible as the ones in B2.
All in all, I think B1 was a fantastic film and definately the best of Balto but against other movies it could struggle, movies like The Lion King, All Dogs Go To Heaven and Spirit are fantastic and Balto may struggle against these ones and others but I still love Balto and it'll always be one my favourites alongside those I mentioned.

As much as I love All dogs to heaven, it seems like an amator film compared to Balto, in every point : soundtrack, animation, story, backgrounds...
Well ADGTH is almost as unknown as Balto for the general public.

I think that this movie was indeed awesome in terms of originality and style. The animation was very good, and the storyline was interesting, taking real life facts and going off from there. ADGTH is still my favorite ofc ourse, but this movie does indeed have it's strong points.

Hey, it was the 80's when that was produced, maaaan:D! So, of course, the animation in Balto will be better, given that it was produced in 1995 (I think?) as opposed to All Dogs, which was released in 1989. It's rather cool how 2D grew in those few years...
