It's just.. as much as I love Balto I don't really think that they should have made sequels. Balto 1 was based on a true story and that is why I liked it so much. The other two are just made up and.. no offense.. but Balto 3 didn't have much of a storyline.
I especially didn't like the fact that the sequels didn't have the original character voices. But, maybe that's just me being picky.

I agree with you too, I really did'nt like WQ or WoC, I watched WoC again yesterday and was cringing at it half the time.
Personally I think if they really could'nt leave it at just 1 Balto movie they should've kept with the real-life theme and had B2 about Baltos life after the serum run and how he got to NY and his displays with the rest of team all over the USA, just not spiritual rubbish like WQ was.

Yeah, the sequels are crap compared to the original, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't have been made. I still enjoyed them. What really gets me angry is how no store sells the first one anymore, only the sequels which probably don't have a very high chance of inspiring non-fans. Yesterday when I bought Balto 2, I asked the manager why the B2 was in the B3 section, which led to me asking why they sold the sequels but not the first one which is literally one of the best movies ever made, in my opinion. I wish that Universal would just get with the freakin' program and commit to making a sequel worthy of the first. If they did that, the first Balto would still have a chance.
Okay, sorry for ranting. Sometimes I just get so mad that Balto didn't get the respect it truly deserved.

You only see one side of the things.
How many of you wouldn't have even heard about it if the sequels wouldn't have been released? How many discovered it by seeing one of the sequels?
Also, do you know that the Balto 1 DVD wouldn't have been released if WQ hadn't been made? Yes, they only made a DVD of the original because they were releasing the sequel on DVD too.
Yes : if the sequels hadn't been made, there wouldn't be so many fans, even indirectly. I would even say that this site wouldn't exists because I still wouldn't have heard about this film.

Well, "increase" isn't really the appropriate word, when this budget is...nothing at all, 0$, 0€...That's exactly what they spent for Balto this year. At least they can only make benefits this way

Yeah, I kinda cringed whenever they do what I earlier in some other thread described as "Cheesy sing-a-long type songs that make some meaning they're trying to express blatantly obvious," or at least I said something to that effect. Anyway, yeah, I think most of us would have been just fine if they didn't make a sequel. Of course, when they did make WQ, then most of us, (Not the WQ fans, I know) were probably thinking that Balto 2 was so bad that they thought "How could another sequel be any better? Then when WoC came out we were like "Wow, that was great! they need to make another sequel! So you see, a good sequel leads people wanting another sequel. I'm sure some wanted a sequel after seeing Balto 1 because they wanted to know what Balto and Jenna's pups were like. I would agree with that, but they could have done a better job with WQ, (no offense to WQ fans) but I haven't seen WoC in full, nor WQ, so mabye I shouldn't be talking. Oh well, I guess that's my opinion, and as someone said, (pardon the bad grammar, but) "I is what I is."

I agree with you 100%. I utterly DISPISED the sequels to Balto 1 (and i did not discover the first one through the crap-sequels) for the fact that they were poorly made and they were based on fiction, whereas Balto1 was based on a true story. If they were to make sequels at all, it should have been more along the lines of the true story after Balto delivered the medicine. I have many many posts as to why I hate the sequels, and I dont feel like stating them again. I don;t care how little time they had to make them, if that was the case, then they should not have even touched Balto at all.

It's not a question of time, it's a question of budget. They had a really low budget, even for making a DTV sequel (4 millions of dollars, when Disney puts at least 10 millions of dollars in theirs) And this was logical, because the original film didn't meet the success. So they could have never got a big budget for making a sequel.
It was either : no sequel at all, never, or a low budget sequel. I know I prefer the second option.

I don't know... I agree with Steet in some ways. I didn't watch the sequels to find out about Balto originally. I saw it on Sky and then, out of the blue, found these forums. I was a Guest until I bought the DVDs myself. So, really it was the forums and my great love for dogs and wolves that inspired me to become a fan.
Wolf Quest wasn't too bad. Now knowing the full story. But they really shouldn't have bothered with WoC. Like whitewolf, I was cringing through it last time I watched it too. They can't mix computer animated backgrounds with cartoons.. it just doesn't work. Plus, I hate every song throughout it. Whereas I can sing along to the WQ ones quite easily.
WoC just wasn't necessary. At all.

exactly. I watched WQ once on Cartoon Network and I looked up Balto on the internet and I learned about the first. I went crazy about it; looking for it all over the net
