Well, actually, Balto isn't a Disney creation. The Balto properties belong to Universal Pictures. And the ones from Balto 1 belong to both them and Amblimation/Amblin Entertainment.

Many theories have been thrown around about where the inspiration for the animated version of Balto (which differs in appearance from the real Balto) came from. If you look at the picture thread I have about Togo, you can see a possible inspiration there...and others have suggested that as well.

I once saw something on the first film though, which suggests that they drew inspiration for Balto's animated form simply by looking at both real wolves and similar-looking Siberian Huskies.

ummm, I've never heard of Togo being portrayed by Steele... That's a way of looking at it but really I don't see Togo being Steele. It's not like Togo had anything against Balto in Real Life

But isnt Togo is Steele in the movie?

NO...not at all! That is a small but very unfounded misconception by people who know little about the movie and its production design, and even less about the real Togo...who was the farthest thing from a villain or a bully!

Well, he's a fictional character, Ghostwolf. There are plenty of those in the Balto cartoons. Togo wasn't figured in at all.

No. Not at all. I posted them so people could share and make use of them. Heh heh. I don't feel proprietary about this stuff. And no one should. It's in the public domain anyway. I'm pleased you were able to make use of it to help dissolve this silly notion that Steele should be renamed Togo, or that he actually represents Togo.

I've always considered the possibility of Steele representing Togo in the sence that Seppala was quite jealous at Balto's fame for a little amount of time.

yeah but why did they name the huskie Steele instead of togo? I think that togo is a cooler name

I couldn't imagine it if Steele was supposed to be Togo. >< lol.

When you take into account the real Togo's history (especially his part in the Great Serum Run) against the way the fictional character Steele was conceived, written and acted, it doesn't add up. Not one bit. If nothing else, they don't even look the same!

And the idea of re-naming Steele as "Togo", because "it sounds cool", as Ghostwolf suggested, is, well, crazy. Ghostwolf needs to start reading the real history.

We are now starting to drift off-topic of the board here, folks. I would ask that we please refrain from futher discussion of why Steele should be renamed Togo, or that he should be him. I'd say this discussion belongs in the Balto 1 board, but Ghostwolf already started one there too.

Let's move on, please. I'd rather ask that than lock the topic (which has crossed my mind).

SGA, you may Have A point. Steele could have been formed by Togo in a way. I mean, Steele is 'the musher's' pride lead. So was Togo
