I saw on TV that cat cloning is avalible and dog cloning will be avalible soon. They had two kids talking about what they thought.

NO! Girl said: Cloning is expensive and you should adopt animals at pounds and stuff.
YES! Girl said: If my pet died having a clone would make me happier.

I say: A clone wouldn't replace my animals, they are my friends. Think, what if your human friend died, would a clone make you happier? It's not your friend!

OMG, are people STUPID!!! I take that back I know people are stupid.. there's already way to many pets in the world as it is. Death is a natural part of life and we need to let life take it's course. OMG do they even realize that thousands of dogs and cats die everyday as a direct result from pet overpopulation... *storms off in a fury of dust and throwing curses left and right*

I agree with you, if they kept cloning, kids won't accept death. If we can't accept death, what can be accepted?

That is Awful! I would never want a clone. I would never betray my pet friend like that, and it would never be the same. Doesn't matter if it looks like my pet. What will happen to the pets at shelters, rescues ect?
=P Some People can be so stupid ... Alot of them are. =P

Cloning is expensive, unreliable, and the results can be nothing like the original pet. however, it provides piece of mind to the rich owner of the pet.
Cloning is still an emerging science, and some things cannot be duplicated. an example is the coloring patterns on dogs and cats is random, regardless of the genetic material. Cloning is also not for the family pet, it is way to expensive. As for the overpopulation issue, cloning is not contributing to the problem. true, there are too many unwanted pets, but they come from people who buy pets and then loose them or throw them out after the initial thrill has worn off. if you want to help the problem of pets on the street, start an awareness campaign for responcible ownership. a pettition to ban pet cloning would be about as usefull as pettitioning a ban on people from buying animals from pet stores instead of pounds. people who clone their pets are are dedicated to them enough to shell out several thousand to get it cloned, they are not about to loose it in any way shape or form. also, every clone is an advance for science, science that might one day save you life. cloning is also so unreliable at this time that they are lucky to get one clone, let alone enough to contribute to the overpopulation issue.
also don't blame the scientists for making cloning possible, blame DNA and it's knack for self replication.

well personally fox there should be a ban on selling dogs in petstores. That's were a vast majority of sickly, low quality dogs come from. I support cloing to a point. I agree with using it to further health and all but not to reproduce an entire animal just to kill it. We have or are working on the ability to reproduce just single body parts and this I believe should be used. But yes cloning whole animals does add to overpopulation... what are you thinking??? Those people that "adopt" the cloned pet are filling the spot an animal in a shelter or rescue could have easily, and very willingly filled. Instead they will have to perish due to lethal injection or some other kind of euthanasia because people took a cloned dog over them, they were "pure" but got turned down.

I can see it being very expensive but sooner or later the prices will come down and then there will be a problem.

I support cloning for limited circumstance, such as to see who was the fastest race-horse of the twentieth century, or to continue the lined of a great castrated animal.
