Alice in Chains are one of the four biggest grunge bands to come out of Seattle. As for Godsmack ripping them off.
1: Godsmack is a name of an Alice in Chains song. Sorry but I don't believe the story Sully came up with about naming his band, about how one of their bandmates got "Godsmacked" or whatever they said.
2: They ripped off some of Layne's art. The sun on Godsmack's first album, or the on that has VooDoo, looks pretty close to the sun on album Dirt by Alice in Chains. Before you jump on my case for any reason, I'm sure any artist would feel the same, you know? You worked on a picture and you post it, and a few weeks later you see the exact same picture but a few things been modified. Wouldn't you get on their case for ripping you off?
As for Alice in Chains having a crappy singer, I'm going to leave that alone. I can say the same thing about Godsmack.
