Post subject: Plans for the board in the coming days
PostPosted: Tue Aug 01, 2006 7:52 pm

Folks,

I want to thank you all for your kind compliments for what I've posted so far. I've done this because I do enjoy sharing the information and educating. Especially with fellow Balto fans!

What I'd really like to see is some DISCUSSION about the history. Pats on the back are really nice (and please...don't stop on my account!). But one of the reasons I pushed for the creation of this board was so that we could discuss the history, and grow from it! If this board remains little more than me posting tidbits, and you all simply saying "Wow, thanks! I didn't know that. You're awesome!" Well, while it will certainly stroke my ego (LOL), it will also, eventually, spell the end of this board...and I don't think any of us wants that!

I plan to add some new posts in the next few days that will help folks with role-plays and fan fiction. I am sure the images will already help artists. I also plan to start posting some general historical information about Nome and Alaska (though not nearly to as a great a degree), and interesting factoids about Nome (relative light and dark schedules, general weather and ocean conditions, etc...which will also help with role-plays and fan fics!). I also plan to post historical pictures of Nome itself, and some more info on the Seppala Sled Dog and Siberian Husky breeds (the two lines which are direct descendants of dogs like Togo and Fritz!).

Keep watching! And, if you have anything you'd like to share, and it's relevant to the topic of this board, please do!

Post script: Steet has also asked me to generate a list of standing rules for the board, which I will. As I grow into the moderator duties for this board, I will be making sure it is maintained and run as well as any of the other boards! And I ask for your cooperation and help in making that happen!

Best Fishes,
BaltoSeppala

The point is that there isn't much to discuss on these topics. You put tons of information, intresting okay, but there's isn't anything to say apart from "ok", "nice", "cool". You don't suggest any discussion topic, and people can't imagine what you want to talk about.
I hope you get my point.

It's a matter of perspective Togo. I mean, I see what you're saying, but Highland Wolf and a few others have already disproven that point of view. Because they are discussing it now.

Still, others we have to spoon-feed. And motivate them to discuss. I was willing to admit, when I started this, that we might run the risk of not having much discussion. It's possible. Still, it's only been a short time. You have to be patient. Maybe it'll NEVER happen. Maybe it will. Maybe only in very small spurts. Maybe a lot.

I was trying to encourage discussion with this thread. And also share my upcoming plans. I was not grumbling about the fact that there hasn't been any. I'm relatively happy with the way things are. After all, I've managed to spark some new rounds of posting of information by other people. And that was one of my goals with this. Another was to disseminate information that would educate members of the site. And the reaction so far, with but one or two isolated exceptions, has proven that that goal is being met...which pleases me no end.

Try to be positive, Togo my friend. After all, it's not a bad thing, is it? We're memorializing the historic Togo, Balto, Fritz and others, and educating. That's a good thing! Are you really that down on this board that you can only see "the glass half empty"?

Balto's Seppala is right Togo. I too see your point. But he is right, me and some others do like to make discussions on the history so we can learn more about it. Hopefully more will get started on this section. It's just the beginning, you cant expect loads too be here at the first opening. It will most likely come through time. And there is lots to talk about, if you have anymore information, write it! If you doubt the info, tell! Make discussion! :)
