Links, links, links! Here is a good starting point for learning about the Great Serum Run and some of its participants! This is broken down into sections:
THE HISTORY OF THE GREAT SERUM RUN
http://www.serumrun.org/History.htm
Perhaps the best analysis of the Great Serum Run on the internet. I found only one error (probably just an editing oversight...which I am just as guilty of from time to time!)...the author refers to some antitoxin being discovered in the Anchorage Railroad Hospital on January 26th, and being packed up on a train and sent to Nenana, arriving on
February 27th. He meant to say "January" (obviously. A train running from Anchorage to Nenana - which is a suburb of Fairbanks - would not take 30 days to get there! And besides...the serum run ended in Nome on February 2nd!)

This website, like many, inflates the distance traveled by Seppala's team. No one seems to know the exact distance for certain...though the first website, listed above, has a pretty accurate measure. Other than that, there is a good write-up here.
BALTO

This has got to be one of the best write-ups on Balto on the internet! Well done, Acanis!

TOGO
These articles reflect, in the authors' writing, the anger felt by Leonhard Seppala about how Togo was overshadowed by Balto. Again, I feel this is unfair to Balto. Surely, Togo was the greatest canine hero of the serum run. No doubts there. But Balto did his part, and did it well. He could not possibly have understood the anger felt by his owner at the press he received. He was just a dog doing what he loved to do. If Seppala should have been angry at ANYONE for Balto's fame, it should have been the press corps, who made such a fuss over Balto when he and his team arrived in Nome on February 2nd. Balto was a good dog, and he worked his tail off...smartly and bravely.

LEONHARD SEPPALA AND HIS BREEDING PROGRAM AND DOGS
The man himself...the irascible little Norwegian (a
short Norwegian??? LOL!) who gave so much to the development of two distinct sled dog breeds (the Siberian Husky and the Seppala Sled Dog), and helped popularize mushing and racing, and trained many people, and many dogs, in it. And some information about the Seppala Sled Dog breed.

THE "ALL-ALASKA SWEEPSTAKES" RACES
Those famous races that were the precursor of the Iditarod Race. Seppala and Togo ran in many, took awards in them, including three first-place wins. Each of these happened in the years before the Great Serum Run, and helped make Seppala and Togo famous.
