Now that I've posted my Togo photos, here's a running set of Balto photos which I've uncovered. Some of these you've seen before...most of these were taken either after the Serum Run, at the very end of it, or during the U.S. tour (which was some months later)...
One of the best-known images of Balto, and a great pose!
Another posed shot...
A shot of Balto (at right) and the team parked in front of the Nome post office on February 2nd, 1925...they day they arrived in Nome
A RE-ENACTMENT, for the press, by the team of their arrival in town on February 2nd, 1925. The actual arrival took place before dawn that morning (approximately 5:30 A.M. local time)
A shot of Gunnar Kaasen with Balto, in Nome right after the Serum Run (note: Kaasen is NOT strangling Balto! LOL! He's merely holding his head steady for the camera...)
Another shot of Balto & Kaasen, this time a little more fun...
Kaasen standing with Balto and the team, same photo shoot
Balto and the team in Nome, just after the Serum Run (that's Fox, the second-in-command of the team, right behind Balto)
Balto with Gunnar and Mrs. Kaasen on a steamboat, bound for Seattle, WA, for a tour of the U.S. (with most of the team).
Balto posing
in his very own suite in the posh Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, California! He and Gunnar (and Gunnar's wife) were each given their own suites at the hotel on the expense of Hollywood producer Sol Lesser, who worked out an arrangement with Gunnar, while still in Seattle, to make a few short moving pictures featuring the team. The rest of the team stayed in a studio kennel while all this work went on.
Balto (at left) appearing with some dogs (and unidentified people, though that's probably still Gunnar Kaasen on the left, with his arm around Balto) in the U.S. after the Serum Run.
L-R: Fox, Gunnar Kaasen, Balto, unknown individual, unknown team member...in the U.S. after the Serum Run
Balto posing for a plaque (and also the eventual statue which now stands in Central Park) for the famous animal sculptor Frederick G. Roth of Englewood, NJ...at his studio (on the rooftop, apparently)
Another shot of Balto being posed (by Gunnar Kaasen) to have a look at Frederick Roth's plaque of him.
Balto posing with some American children during the U.S. tour after the Serum Run
A shot of Balto at the dedication of his statue, and the sled dog/musher monument in Central Park, New York City.
(same, wider angle)
Balto saying hello to another dog in a kennel during or after the U.S. tour...this could possibly have been after he and the team were rescued from the cruel dimestore museum owner, and brought back to Cleveland, Ohio.
